Extensive use by Mick of the 80s FM synth pads of the 'Yamaha DX7' analog synthesizer. Especially instrument #11 called "E.PIANO 1". It was 'recycled' digitally as instrument #1-5 called "LegendEP" in the more recent 'Yamaha Reface DX' mini synth (see for example here).
Hallmark 80s sound pads. Examples: Simply Red - "Jericho" (06:02): Simply Red - "Holding Back The Years (Re-Extended Version)" (08:07): George Michael - "A Last Request" (03:49):

As a key man myself I prefer my good old Yamaha U3M though. Nothing beats that crisp sound. However the DX7 was excellent too.

Just realized who Mike Campbell is, hubbahubba. Nice to see he's still performing. Always loved his guitar playing. Big contribution to the Hearbreakers.
Here's my favorite by them. Love his solo here. |

Keith Emerson playing ragtime. Good stuff. I wonder if Tommy Lee got the idea for his spinning drum kit from Keith's spinning grand piano?
