Help with 19inch setup for M240i xdrive
Hello, I'm new to bmw coming over from Japanese cars. I would love to get 19 inch wheels and tires that are at least a 245/255 in the rear. Would it be possible with xdrive ? If so what do you guys know that works? I've read and read and I'm still confused. I've seen in the rear a 30series tire but man the ride quality in chicago would be brutal. My car is stock.
Thank you |

The bigger rim you get the lower profile tire you need (thinner sidewall) to make up for the bigger rim. So if you want 19s, you will be trading that for the smaller sidewall and stiffer ride.
245 will easily fit in the rear. The issue with xdrive is you want the diameter of the front and rear tires within 3% of each other. Since both front and rear tires are connected to the drivetrain, they need to spin at (almost) the same rate. Where if you were RWD that wouldnt matter. |

225 is factory size for front, and will give the most room for offset when you pick your rims.
255 will easily fit in the rear, as long as the offset of the rear rims is correct for that size. The sidewall will be smaller on a 245/30-19 than a 245/35-19 and an ever rougher ride. Since you are AWD you need to make sure the front and rear tire diameters are not different by more than 5%. Ok you seem to be lost here. First, decide if you want staggered or square setup. Staggered is when the rear tires are larger (wider) than the fronts. It looks cooler, but you will get more understeer as you now have more rear grip than front and your car is already AWD. Then decide HOW MUCH of a stagger you want. Do you care if you have 225 front and 265 rear or do you want them close? Now you know a basic size front and rear, decide if you want the cool look of 19s or the better ride of 18s. Find a wheel to match the tire sizes and now you know the limitations of the front and rear offsets. Make sure the wheel you picked you can afford and come in those offsets. Now that you know exact what wheel you will order (and the offset of it), narrow down the extra tire sized you want for the offsets and the front to rear diameter difference. If you go with SQUARE setup (front and rear tires are same size), it will be easier to find wheels and now you can rotate your tires diagonally instead of just across. But wont look as cool and now your rear tire size is limited by what you can fit on the front. A 235 (or 245 if youre careful with offset) is the biggest you can go square. You can do 225 (small) up to 245 front, and up to 265 rear. Now you know your wheel offset, and wheel width, now you can think about the aspect ratio (30 to 40) to get the front/rear diameter to match. Did I confuse you more? lol |

I kind of understand lol I'm new to bmw so I'm excited and have been reading the forums for hours trying to gain some knowledge in regards to wheels and tires. Seems like this 2series is tricky. I honestly would like the look of the 19s but would hate to have a 30 series tire. I don't want to diminish the performance of the car. I don't care if I have to do square or staggered. Just want my rear wheels a bit wider. 245/255 whatever fits. Front I can do 225 if going staggered. If going squared I would like a 245/35/19 type look if at all possible (which I doubt from what I'm reading) a lot of what I've read is mostly RWD setups which is why I'm still stuck lol 18s just seem to small lol
This is the wheel that I really want https://www.urotuning.com/products/n...14306426388535 As far as tires I would go with continental extreme contact sport. |

Ok so screw that wheel lol just trying to figure out what size tires would I be able to fit on the car. Whether squared or staggered. Without compromising my ride quality. I'm on the run flats. So 19s non run flats can't be worse ?
I've seen someone on stock suspension do 245/35/19 squared but that's the only one I've seen, so I'm not convinced. If the only way to get a 245 is to go to a 30 series tire then I'd rather stay with 18s and just do a 245/40/18 all around. |

I think 235/35-19 in the front on ET38 to ET40 19x8 wheels and 245/35-19 in the rear on ET40 to ET50 19x8.5 wheels could work. The diameter difference would be 7mm, bearing in mind the stock 225/40-18 front and 245/35-18 wheels are 8.5mm different in diameter (although the other way).
Alternatively you could use a 19x8 ET40 wheel for both the 235/35-19 and 245/35-19 tyre size, to avoid the severe limitation of finding staggered wheels in the right sizes. Last edited by aerobod; 06-02-2021 at 11:33 PM.. |

The tyre profile will have a bearing on front fit, with the slightly larger diameter tyre that is also slightly wider, the closest point will likely be the fender liner in the front of the wheel well when the tyre is turned fully inwards, a very square tyre profile will leave the least clearance here. That being said, I still have 10mm clearance with an oversized 225/45-18 winter tyre I use (13mm larger diameter than a 235/35-19 tyre).

Just realized the 235 front and rear 245 won't work since I'm Xdrive. I'm going to search for a 245/35/19 square fitment with an offset between 38-40 on a 8.0 wheel or 8.5. I have a good shop around here that can steer me the right way. Thanks again

You can do staggered no problem. 235 front and 245 rear. You just have to make sure the rolling diameter is within 3%. That is how far the tire will roll in one rotation. Once you get more than 3% one set of tires is rolling faster or slower than the other set that the AWD differential will wear.
225/40-18 and 225/35-19 have the same DIAMETER when they roll so the tire is the exact same size in the wheel well, but the WHEEL is 1 inch larger so the sidewall of the tire will be 1 inch smaller. You bolt both those on the car and both tires will spin exactly the same, but now there is 1 inch less tire sidewall (with air inside the tire) to absorb bumps. But it looks cooler since there is a larger wheel with what looks like a smaller tire on it. |

Oh, back to the staggered:
225/40-19 and 245/35-19 diameter is within 1% of each other. So if you had those on front and rear the differential and ABS system wouldnt even know its staggered because they will roll down the road within 1% rolling diameter of each other. |

Bumping an old thread in hopes I'll get lucky with a response. Has anyone tried or know if the rear wheel (18x8 et 52) will fit on front without any issue? Am looking to get a square set up of 245x35x18 on my 2017 m240i xdrive with Dinan Performance Springs w/ bumpers.
