Typical Parts Markup at an Indy
What do you think is a reasonable parts markup? My daughter has her vehicle at a place in Chicago and they do 100%. In this case the $750 cost and they will charge $1500. My mechanic which is far from the city does maybe 25%. But maybe he is an outlier.

100% is robbery. Don't go there. 10% above their cost is normal for handling/administrative cost. Some don't use OEM parts but that doesn't mean those parts are any different, and in fact most are identical and made by the same people.

I agree. I was able to talk with two different shops yesterday, though not in the city, and they said 100% is not unheard of. But on lower priced items. On a higher priced item, maybe 20-30%. One said he would limit it to $150. We are both going to make some calls to city shops in the AM.
