228i Msport, Track Handling Package, MSport Brakes - Pads suggestion?
I was able to find a diamond in the rough. A white MSport 228i with track handling package, Msport brakes, and radiators on both sides. Also came with the parking package, technology package, lighting package, and premium package which will make it a lot more livable.
Unfortunately it is automatic and the dealer installed new front tires (Pirelli Zero Nero All seasons) and the backs have Indy500 at about 80% life. They also put on new front rotors (340mm) and new pads but the pads are unfortunately ceramics. I purchased the car mostly to do some Auto-x, HPDE, and backroads. Its been about a decade since I've been to an event so I'm very excited to return. I plan to get the transmission fluid changed out before I go to an event. Definitely plan to get the brake fluid changed out, perhaps install new lines. Any recommendations on what brake pads to go with and replacements for the rear rotors? Probably just going Yellow stuff. Maybe Stoptech Sports or Powerstop Trackday. I am planning to change out the tires to Michelin P4S after an event or two. They mounted non-matching tires on the car? wth ?

Yeah, it's a Mercedes dealer who got it in a trade in. They just used whatever they had on hand. If I recall, the Pzero Nero AS are pretty soft side walls but maybe they've updated the tire since the decade ago I tried it.

Had a chance to take it out of my favorite local back roads. The back end is very controllable, no problems at all and the chassis is wonderful. A bit of understeer perhaps even more so because of the new all seasons up front. I guess I will be getting a proper alignment done and adding M4 LCAs sometime next year.
I am going to work on the brakes first, I've ordered these for the rear: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...3824&jsn=10471 And matching pads for the front to use with the generic 340mm front rotors. Also got some SS Stoptech lines and Motul RBF600 fluid. I'm now debating if I want to spend money on a transmission fluid and filter change or if I should spend that money on new Yokohama Advan Apex V601 all around. A little painful to get rid of like new tires though. Some glowing reviews for them and about the same price for the transmission service. The car drives perfectly fine for 63k miles.... so guess I gotta figure that out. |

Just a convenient package. But turns out they’re out of stock actually so I need to figure out what I’m doing there. Maybe just get the Zimmerman. Edit: picked up the Zimmerman from FCP.

Used car prices aside, I keep hearing that inflation's now a thing. I sure hope we don't go through that again, at least not in a big way. Once was enough for this consumer.

Decided to get the tranny fluid changed out, figured that was a better spend than new tires this year. Brakes and transmission.
I think I'll pick up the Yoko Advan V601s with the Millet camber plates and get those done all at once with an alignment after a couple of events. |

I'm very happy with the Advan Apex V601's for daily driving, fast backroad, and light motorsport use. I'm planning to use them at the last local AutoX of the year (brisk and dewy conditions are expected in the morning), and I think they'll be faster than the A052's or RE71R's initially, but the proper 200TW tires might catch me as the day warms up.

Hmm many reason why I shouldn’t go with 235 up front instead of 225 stock? I believe the front wheels are 7.5” and rears are 8” on 245.

Ferodo 2500 pads are a great option. New diff fluid to go w/ the transmission. If serious about tracking go straight to camber plates, the LCA won't get you enough. Would also strongly recc a quickfit belt setup.

So signed up for a day next month. I think I'll put in the camber plates, charge pipes, and tune next year along with a diff fluid change.
How bad is it that I have Pirelli Nero AS up front and Firehawk Indy500's in the back. Debating switching out the fronts to Indy500s but seems like such a huge waste to get rid of NEW nice tires. No place for me store tires unfotunately. |
