Nissan doesn't do svelte designs do they? It's such bulky look, same with the 350/370 before it.

It's still just another 350z refresh, so they won't be able to change it drastically.

Z31 and Z32 were the same. Even the 280ZX.

The last "svelte" Z's were the 240/260. So ~45 years?

I kid, I kid.

Better picture but in a strange color:
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...z-future-2021/
That color is very close to the color of a 240z my cousin had back in the late 70's, they are going retro but I kind of like the look.

I will be surprised if the 400Z actually ends up weighing ~3200lbs

Nissan Z in Battleship Grey!

I think I forgot to share this, but maybe a production color?

I had a 350Z from 2007 to like 2018, loved that car for what it was.
Put a lot of time and effort into that car and really made it my own.
What I think is sad is that this new Z is just a motor swap and body kit from a 370Z, which was a evolution of a 350Z. Basically, the bones of the new Z go back to 2003. I can't imagine wanting to pay like $40K+ for such an old platform. Look at the interior for crying out loud, its just a retouched 370Z.
I get that Nissan doesn't have the money to truly make a new sports car, but I can't see this competing with dedicated sports cars unless they price it really low.

I got a 350Z in 2002 to replace my z32 300ZX, I too loved it for what it was as well and had a blast with it. The Z community is awesome and I even got to meet Mr. K. Iím not too bothered by Nissan just improving the same platform and focusing on the body/powertrain/interior/tech. Porsche has been doing this for ages (996/997, 991/992) and donít see many complain. If this allows them to offer a ~400hp, two seat sports car with a manual in 2022 for $40k we should be happy. Prefer this than what Toyota did with the Supra. No link to the past styling-wise, not Toyota mechanicals and no manual.

Iím not in the market for this car (my M2 fits my need perfectly, not to mention itís a blast to drive!) but I hope it does well and Nissan can keep building Z cars for years to come.

I had a 370Z with Navi and everything for about a year, and it is fine for what it is, but it was a never-meet-your-heroes sorta car for me, it isn't meant to be pushed and you can tell how prehistoric it really is underneath, oil temperature issues, clutch slave issues, the VLSD traces its roots back to the 90s and genuinely feel old, dimwitted, slow, and not sufficiently strong enough, that was just 5 years ago, considering how much the equivalent was new then, it already felt overpriced.

However, the Z does have its share of die-hard loyal fans, and like WRX fans, they will happily hand over money to have the latest ones even if it isn't the most advanced cars on the road.

Porsche also has money to actually R&D those minute changes they make that does make an impact, Nissan's cost cutting measures is very obvious, and Nissan's habit of effectively make the car and do no evolution or improvements to address issues to the chassis other than bandaids is also evident. The Fuel tank starvation issue caused by the saddle fuel tank was from the 350z/35, and I got it with a full tank on my 370Z, which was 8 years after the 350Z was launched, and I am hardly Lewis Hamilton.

I will keep my eyes open to see what Nissan can do with a parts bin special (remember the 1M? it is technically a parts bin special too, and that turned out amazing)

I remember seeing your car on my350z! Time attack CE28 / TE37 days!! I owned a set of LE37T on my Z.

I owned/loved my 2007 350z from 07-12, great car, never gave me a single issue in the 60k miles I owned it. No where in the class of our current cars, but nonetheless, I paid 29k out the door new at the time (less than half of my M4).

My biggest pet peeve on that car was the POS clutch slave cylinder. A mild 2k-3k rpm launch would cause that pedal to become soft - it was definitely a problem for that car. I never had the clutch pedal drop to the floor and stay or what not but I also rarely launched the car because of how soft the pedal got.

Dude, those were the days. Life was simple back then lol. They were great cars and competed with a lot of different cars in that price range. Japanese muscle was dope.

Much better parts bin for the 1M though.

Spooky. I also had a 2007 350z from 2007-2012

I had hard 370z Nismo envy (the original one with the big wing), but in the end I never felt it was enough of an upgrade from my HR 350z, so I moved on to other brands. My personal biggest pet peeve was that 2nd would grind if you shifted too quickly. I didn't even really shift all that quickly either, just didn't like it.

I initially was not into the new Z, but it's growing on me. Just wish they called it the 300ZX because it makes too much sense. If it stays around 40k it'll definitely be a hit.

I'm really digging white on this car, but if they do a grey other than gun metallic, such as battleship or a similar shade I would consider it. For me it's probably going to come down to which colors are offered on the Nismo which may not be known until next year, but if I had to guess it'll be white, black, silver and red.
