Best Tires for M performance Rims?
Hey all,
I am the second owner of my 2018 M240i M-Performance Edition and it had the OEM tires on it when I bought it around 10k miles I just rolled over 18k miles so I've driven a good amount on these and I really don't like them. They seems like they can't handle the full peak torque in second gear even in the dry. I realize that the 19inch rims aren't helping but they are really attractive and expensive and came as part of the car so I'm reluctant to outright replace them unless I have no other option. Due to the pandemic I haven't had to change the original Pirelli P-Zero runflats. They ride pretty bad in my opinion over bumps but I understand that they are low profile and these are 19 inch rims. My goal is to get something that can handle the stock power level without any issue(I don't drive crazy on the road, just want to be able to use all of 2nd gear when is safe and appropriate) and ride better than the run-flats. At some point in the future as things open back up I'd consider auto-crossing so I'd like a setup that works for that, but given this is my daily and I understand diminishing returns I don't plan on dumping any money into suspension changes or roll-bars etc unless they have very negligible effect on the daily drive and are sub $500 mods. Important note, I do NOT have the LSD, which is unfortunate, but I also don't have another 3k to pile on for at least another full year, especially if the consensus is that these rims just suck except in the looks department. Finally, I really do not want to have three sets of wheels, as I'm in the Midwest so I already have a full set of winter wheels and tires for the car that I have to store in my garage. I really appreciate any feedback and insight as this is my first question here! Tire sizes:225/35 R19 (front) and 245/30 R19 (rear) Wheels: https://www.shopbmwusa.com/product/4...LETE-WHEEL-SET

I would just replace the current tyres with the same size Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres and carry the tyre repair kit (either the BMW kit that is provided from the factory with non-runflat tyres on the 2-series, or aftermarket).
The grip increase will be worthwhile and they will work with the OEM wheels. |

AFAIK, the PSS runflat has never been fitted to the 2-series, only the conventional PSS summer tyre. If it is a PSS runflat it will say "Pilot Super Sport ZP" on the sidewall, where ZP in an oval indicates "Zero Pressure" for a Michelin runflat.

I check and mine did NOT have ZP. Intead, it says tubeless michelin radial x. I have never had a runflat tire before and have always thought it doesn't feel too bad for a "runflat" tire.. Luckily I did not swap it out yet hoping for a better performance... |

The MPS 4S has front/rear tread widths of 7.7"/8.4". The difference in rear tread width is remarkable for a tire that one might think is the same size. The MPS AS 4, which has replaced the A/S 3+ and likely has similar or the same specs, shows tread widths f/r of 7.7" and 8.7". Of course, the all-season tires have less grip, and they start out with deeper tread depths.
