2022 2-series on the freeway in California

Looks like they are/were testing one in Southern CA.
Video appears to be on the 405 near Costa Mesa...

Seems pretty close (or identical?) to dimensions of the current car.

Well done video.

Looks terrible.

I waited until the next-gen pics/footage were available before deciding. After seeing them, it was the F22 for me hands-down.

It is almost certain it will be mechanically identical to the M340i/330i/M440i/430i due to being on the same platform and will have the same or slightly lower output B58 and B48 engines and be automatic only. I would expect the xDrive would be offered, too.

Not "might". Will. BMW's San Luis Potosi plant, along with shared platform 3 Series.

Wow are they really all going to be automatic? What a bummer.

New spy pics...
https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...w-m2-spy-shots

The quad exhaust would indicate this is the m2 variant.

Here's another article:

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...ted-first-time

This is interesting:

>>As with the original M2, the new model is scheduled to be assembled alongside standard versions of the second-generation 2 Series Coupé and the third-generation Z4 at BMW’s factory in Leipzig, Germany, for the British market. Plans also exist for the model to be built alongside the latest 3 Series at BMW’s new San Luis Potosí site in Mexico for other selected markets, including North America.<<

That is interesting, if true. I wonder if it'll be a situation like the 3-series in which ~95% of the inventory is coming in (to the US/Canada) from San Luis Potosi, but a rare bird here and there are from Deutschland.

Nobody outside of BMW NA really knows anyway but C&D seem to think the M240i replacement will offer the correct (manual) transmission. I was hoping the G20 would continue to offer it in the M340i but nope; looks like my F30 is the last gen of manual 3-series. If the next 2-series is auto-only I'm not sure I want to pay the M2/3/4 premium.

I read that C&D article from 3/18/20. Good news on the stick. Have anyone else confirmed the vert is out for next gen? Or that the manual is definitely in?

It will probably be longer, wider, taller and have more gadgets and gizmos in it so I would hazard a guess that it will definitely be heavier. Its the way of the automotive world, there arent many replacement models that are lighter.

Not sure about width and height, but in the photos it really doesn't look longer than the current car. I mean, it could be an inch or two longer, I don't know. But I don't look at the image at the top of this thread and say, "Wow, that's definitely longer than my car."

Any particular reason you plan to swap the M2C for the new M240? Is it the adaptive suspension?
