Moonlight Convertible Top vs Black
Does anyone have pictures or experience with the moonlight top? Especially paired with Long Beach Blue.
I've got a special order in for a 2021 convertible in Long Beach Blue. My last decision is top color. I've never seen moonlight in person. Seems like a black top is the safe top, but the moonlight could potentially add something special. Thanks in advance! |

I'd highly recommend the Moonlight top. I have it on my vert and wouldn't consider anything but it on a BMW. Well worth the extra $.

I have it on my M235i Convertible and as mentioned above, it's takes on a slight blue tinge in blue-skies weather, which is nice. I'd say it was better than standard black, but obviously, I'm biased.

Wife's 2016 228i has the moonlight top, as did her previous 2011 128i convertible. Zero issues, and it looks great.

Wow thanks everyone for the thoughts and the pictures. I think it looks pretty great in the photos.
Does anyone find that in-person the shine makes it look like cheap vinyl, think a Jeep top? jzeiler4 What color did you get? And please share a picture when you get it. Hope you love it! |

Of course the Moonlight Black top but the car is Estoril Blue Metallic with Cognac Dakota Leather with Dark Brown highlight. My SA said today it just finished processing at the VPC in Brunswick. Hope to have it next week and there will be pictures.

Here's a photo' of it in the garage with the door open. I chose it because it sort of shows the reflection effect you get with this fabric - it's partly fluorescent reflection, partly the bodywork blue reflections.
Checking my original order, the name it's given there is 'Anthracite Silver Fleck'. From other forum posts, I think this is the same as the US 'Moonlight Black' but you'd have to do some research to be certain. Fluorescent tubes like these in my garage tend to be in the blue end of the colour temperature range, so the fabric is getting a fair bit of blue 'wash' from the lights and daylight. The rendering of the photo' looks quite accurate. As a contrast, here is a shot taken in overcast, rainy weather and the top looks a light matt grey: If the body colour was black or dark grey, I'd say the black would be better suited, but if it's blue, then I think the non-black works better. However, if it you get a lot of overcast, rainy days, then you might think that the black might look more photogenic - but I'm assuming that the OP's Florida weather is a bit more benign than here on the south Coast of England Note that the car has the carbon fibre AutoID mirror caps retro-fitted. Also, here in the UK at the time I ordered, the black trim (as opposed to 'highlight' faux-chrome) around the seat of the soft-top was a no-cost option which I chose. I'm not sure what current ordering options are here or in the US. I think the gloss black seating trim looks much better but note that when I ordered, it wasn't clear from the initial spec' list which sort of trim it came with: it was only clear from the more detailed ordering list from the dealer's internal systems that appeared once an order had been placed.

The thing I like about the "reflectivity" of the moonlight top is that it isn't as affected by the sun/UV as the all-black top.

My wife has the 2018 230i and the top looks classy, not cheap. My 2018 Wrangler has the plastic looking top bt comparison. We had the black top BMW 320 previously and loved it but we do prefer the moonlight top.

Although it does not photograph well I am very glad I got the Moonlight Black top. It is so different in person than in the pictures, kind of reminds me of a pair of black jeans I have. Goes very well with the Estoril Blue.

My car has the moon-whatever. When I first saw the car on the lot I thought the top was faded from the sun(on a blue car) because it was used (2017 bought in 2019). So IMO I would have rather had the black.

Moonlight Top on Mineral Grey
I love the Moonlight top, to me it looks so much better that black. Now on a black paint job that may be different but on my mineral grey it's a perfect match.

Well I learned something today, you cannot use a natural sheepskin chamois on a Moonlight top to get up the beaded water from a wash. Synthetic is Ok but the real one leave tiny bits of itself all over the top. Had to let it dry and then scrub it off with a nylon brush. Won't make that mistake again.

Natural chamois are good for cleaning glass - that's about it these days. Too many better options.

Moonlight Top on Mineral Grey
Sorry but I was just laughing as I discovered the same issue when the car was newer. Didn't seem really funny at the time but in hindsight, oh well. A good bristle brush works well to easily remove the debris. It's a good way to clean it also, a low water press from the hose, a little mild soap and gently brush away dirt and dust.
