Timesert
Checking if somebody has used Timesert on a M235i oil drain plug yet. I've sent the question in to Timesert but I'm still waiting for a reply. I'd like to order the kit already from Amazon to lessen my downtime.
* Is our drain plug M12x1.5x16? * If the length is indeed 16, how come the "16.2" on their site is bolded in red?

I believe a number of people have used Timeserts on the F30 series forum with their N55 cars. Those cars have the same pans. I know a lot of E9X M3 owners have done the same. The biggest obstacle is keeping the Timesert straight during tapping and keeping the filings out of the pan. I'm not sure on the plug size, sorry.
Over-torqued plug? If so, were you using a torque wrench?

I have never used one on an oil pain but have used thread inserts other places an easy trick to keep filings out of the oil pan is to apply heavy grease to the cutting tap and go slow the metal cuttings will get pushed into the flutes of the tap and get trapped in the grease.then i would dump a quart or 2 of cheap motor oil through the engine before installing the drain plug to flush any little peaces that may have gotten into the oil pan

I have one installed, although I had a shop do the work. Not doubting your capability at all, just consider that most shops have timesert kits on hand and can have the work completed in an hour or so. In my case, the total bill was $160 and completed in 45 minutes.

Yes, I had a "clicker" and doing it upside down, on my back, I didn't feel the "click" immediately. I've since bought a digital one.
A couple years back, I made the mistake, by "feel", on the E93 M3. I successfully installed Timesert (again, on my back) on it and it's been over 30K miles without a single drip. One thing great with this Timesert kit, it comes with a guide to assist you in keeping your tap straight. Timesert emailed back and lucky for me, I can use the same kit I used on the E93. Wish me luck...and steady hands!
