CEL after VRSF
Hey everyone, I recently installed VRSF and Jb4. I have a CEL that comes on, I'll clear it with menu 4 then after driving for awhile it comes back. No difference in driving.
Any suggestions? Couple things I noticed with VRSF: - Vibration / Rattle on either a bracket/flange or heat shield. - Slight fuel smell. Not sure if this is normal or related to CEL. - Again, intermittent CEL (I did have the battery unplugged during JB4 and exhaust install. |

You probably need the spacer. The smell is normal or you could be running rich coz the cel is related to the o2 sensor. You need to pull the code so we can help you better

Downpipe No Cel Solution?
I also want to get the VRSF 4.5" CATLESS DOWNPIPE B58 from Extreme Powerhouse.
I'm holding back on my purchase mainly because of the CEL light, and I don't want my SA to write it up when I go in for service. I don't like the current solutions - JB4 or Flash tune (expensive just to remove the CEL light). I found a post from f30 bimmerpost, and he had success with the 90 degree o2 sensor extension. Here is the link: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1428608 Did anyone try this with their M240i? |

I'll have to check at the 1500 mile mark then. I presume over time maybe there's build-up that finally reaches the sensor. Time will tell. |

I don't understand why there's often a prolonged lapse between pipe/spacer install and the initial CEL, but it's common. I clear it with the JB4, but I need to pass NYS inspection every year, so still figuring out my options.

I'll throw out some good news. I was clearing the CEL for several thousand miles with the JB4, but now it's been gone again for a couple thousand miles. Go figure.

I got the CEL recently, twice....both times were when. the car was relatively cold and I got on the throttle I sport mode. I cleared them with the jb4 both times and haven't had any recurrences. just need to let her warm up a little longer. $0.02

Mine’s still off (even though I’ve done 100 miles since my 1/27 post). I’m tempted to get it inspected now, even though I’m good through May.

I just started digging into the research on a downpipe and came across this thread. I'm new to this, so please bear with me.
CEL - Check Engine Light Catless DP - no catalytic converter so it won't pass California emissions test, correct? Catted DP - includes catalytic converter so it will pass emissions. JB4 - tuner that can clear the CEL code and also can be used to tune engine for DP, CAI, etc. for better performance. Question: does the JB4 clearing the CEL allow a catless DP to pass emissions testing? Or should I just go with a catted DP because, you know, California. Thanks!
