pirelli run flats OEM
Not even 2 months into my lease and this happens. I have zero curb rash on the wheels themselves. how can this happen?! This is at least 600 in damages.

It's pothole damage. The tire compresses against the wheelwell and the sidewall splits. Its happened to three of my tires in the past year. Bad news is there could also be rim damage you can't see. Happened to me too. Hope you got the tire and rim package.

And only 1 of 3 rims have had damage so may not be worst case. |

The Michelin PS 4 and 4S are summer tires. The all-season Michelin that posters on this forum frequently cite is the A/S 3+.

Exactly the same thing happened to me....a couple of months after taking delivery. I also had a bent wheel, which luckily the dealer sent out for straightening.

Potholes happen. Over 15 years ago, I was driving my brand-new 325 in the neighborhood, having waited six weeks for it to arrive from Europe after a glorious month driving it through Europe at 200 kph. The car was filled with kids, mine and their friends. We hit a pothole and wham, the front passenger-side tire blew to shreds.

I blew out 2 sidewalls on the RFT's in 5 months because of Portland roads and finally went with the Mich Pilot Sport AS3+ and couldn't be happier. The price of 2 RFT's almost paid for a whole set of non-RFT's. I now carry a 5th full size wheel in the trunk for long road trips, otherwise I rely on roadside assistance.

There are plenty of awful tyres that all major manufacturers produce (Michelin and Bridgestone included). I rate Michelin MXM4 tyres as some of the worst I have ever used, quite a contrast from MPSS. The best track tyre I have ever used is the Pirelli DM slick.

Perhaps it is more about consistency and quality than loyalty; I tend to stick with a couple of brands that I have had consistent results with in the past. Particularly for a DD, it seems logical to have a tire that reacts in a consistent manner in the conditions you would face in your region, both in "typical" conditions and those where aggressive driving is required or severe conditions can exist. For example, nothing worse than a HP summer tire that is one-dimensional (i.e. great in the dry, rubbish in the wet) or with unpredictable behavior at the limits of adhesion...

The Pirelli run flats that bmw uses are trash, many owners here have had problems with them.
I haven't had any issues with the Bridgestone run flats that came on mine though. |

All RFT's are trash! I had the Bridgestone's and blew out 2 of them in 6 months. On my previous E92 I blew out a Bridgestone. I've since went with Mich Pilot AS3+ and they're a million times better.

so i read up on the pirelli warranty. it states that special warranty is in effect within the first year of vehicle or before 2/32 thread has been used whichever comes first. think bmw will honor this and replace my two front free of charge?

so i just called a bunch of authorized pirelli dealers in my local area (bmw is not a participating dealer) finally found one that would do it free of charge. I plan on popping in later this week to swap out the shot tires and store them away till lease return.
