My car has been to the dealer for this problem twice, the first time in January they replaced the suspension top mounts, but 10 days later the clunking came back. It went to the dealer again, who kept it for a week. I got the car back last Wednesday after a new steering rack had been fitted. So far the new steering rack has cured the problem.
If the problem is caused by the steering rack, I would suggest that this is a very serious problem. Last edited by TigerTrump; 02-19-2018 at 03:21 PM.. |

Latest BMW fix for this is shims - not sure whether shims are between wheel and rotor or rotor and hub. Just picked it up again, and no noises. Can't imagine what in the steering rack would have caused this -- just think dealers are replacing parts & likely making good warrantee repair $ doing so?

They actually replaced my rear axle or parts thereof at my dealership. Supposedly a "known issue". was only happening on full steering wheel lock going in reverse for me.

issue resolved?

I have this same exact issue, when reversing from my drive way, turning the steering all the way to the right, a loud "clunk" popping noise from the driver side suspension or wheel.
