Yes, that's about right. Mostly city will be lower MPG until the car gets fully broken in, usually after about 7500 miles. My 228i convertible with 8 AT wouldn't get over 27 MPG on the highway until we got closer to 10K, and now it gets 34.

Mine has 1300 miles on it. (230i)
I have been getting mid to upper 20s in around town/suburbia driving and low 30s on the highway. I could do better if I drove more conservatively. |

I'm on my 3rd tank of 89, so I'm guessing it's gotta be 89 or 90 octane.. My normal highway commute is up 33 or 34 mpg with it. On 93, I was getting 29 or 30 mpg. I don't know why I get better mpg on 89, but I'm guessing it's because it takes less spark to ignite it... Maybe that's giving me a better burn? No idea, but the mpg is better than with 93 and it costs less. Once I'm down to empty, I'm going to go back to 93 to see if it might just be my driving.. I don't know.. but right now, it seems 89 might be the ticket for me since I'm not racing my car.

If you drive the 230i hard at all you won't do much better than 20. I average about 22-24 in mixed driving. On long road trips I can get up to 32-35 depending on speeds and grades. If you're going to thrash it...you might as well go with the big engine as the economy loss isn't that great. Weakest link in the F22 is the tiny fuel tank.

This really worries me. With my 2015 335xi I average 23.1 right now in 70% City / 30% Highway driving. With the JB+ and my AFE Pro Dry filter I was averaging closer to 25 MPG average but took them off for a service and never put them back on as my lease is ending soon.
I have a 2018 230xi on order, being a lighter, newer car, with a smaller engine I thought I'd be getting better MPG? It certainly is rated better.

Yeah I suppose I really won't know how it is for me until I drive it long term, and city driving can mean very different things between different cities, my driving is probably more "town" driving than city driving.

Driving style makes a HUGE difference. Pure highway I can get up into the 30's, and when I remember to put it on eco mode it adds about 5% more (when going steady on cruse control, you don't notice it is in eco, but I never remember this). Next favorite mode seems to be 'spirited country roads' where I can usually do mid-high 20's, even averaging in the 40-50mpg. City driving will be lucky to be up into 18-19mpg.
I can't see the logic of running 89 octane just for mileage, since that also basically neuters the power, and brings potential mechanical risk - not worth it to save a few $$ IMHO (but miles of thread on that topic, pro and con....). |

2018 230xi with 8,500 miles. I'm averaging 25.1 MPG, mixed driving. If I drive like a grandma in Eco Pro mode, around town, I can get high 20s. The performance hit is really staggering in Eco Pro, almost un-driveable.
