Cheap lightweight 17" wheels for track duty
Hi I am looking for a set of square 17" wheels for track duty for my 2014 rwd M235i.
Looking to run something like square 17x8.5 or 17x9 with 245 or 255 tires I plan on running dinan camber plates as well, trying to achieve around -2 deg of camber front and rear Would prefer something cheap (set of 4 wheels < $1000) if possible, doesn't have to be a huge name brand. needs to clear the m235i brakes obviously and no rubbing, would prefer to not roll the fenders... I've done some reading and it looks like the kosei k4r are the go-tos but i can't seem to access them on tire rack. Do they still make them? should i just call and ask? or is there a new go-to? Thanks

I, & several others, are running the TR Motorsport C4 which are 17x8 et40, with 245/40/17.
I'm running them on Dinan springs and no rubbing but there is not a lot of extra room. I think 255 would be a problem. I do wish the TR motorsports were a little wider (The Kosei wheels are also 17x8), but the tires I'm running (Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R) are spec to 8-9.5 rims. This combination has been fantastic on the track for me. Keep us posted as to what you decide upon and give us info on fit & track performance. https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...5&autoModClar= https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...=Sport+Package Last edited by ChrisFulton; 06-23-2018 at 07:45 PM.. |

I'm now just focused on becoming a better driver on the track before changing much of anything else except that I have a factory LSD that I have yet to install. After that I am done for awhile and will spend money for track days and then decide to put more money into suspension or just save that money to put toward another car. I assume TPMS? Yes, I had it added and it has been really useful to be able to monitor tire pressure on the track. Last track day I lowered pressure after several sessions. |

This might be useful seeing as 1 series and 2 series fitment is basically the same.
I tried out my Apex Arc-8s from my e36 on the weekend. 17x9et42 with Advan A050 R comps in 245/40/17 (similar width to a 265 street tyre). Needed a 5mm spacer on the front to clear the stut, and the rear brake pads needed the vibration damper weight thingies removed (last pic shows what I mean). I'm running Ohlins coilovers with Vorschlag camber plates, -2 camber all around. Front Rear Modified rear brake pads |
