Paint cracks?
Hey folks,
I got my CPO 2015 M235i about a month ago and now I am seeing these cracks on the body frame on the driver's side near the door latch/tire pressure sticker. It seems to be only in and around that particular area (In the picture). Any idea what might have caused this? I am wondering if there was some sort of damage/repair on the car that wasn't showing up on the carfax...is it possible? Also, I purchased perma plate when I bought the car. Does anyone know if this can be covered under perma plate? If not, what would be the best way to get this repaired? Thanks all! |

Cracking. Someone did an incorrect paint job. Probably prepared the paint incorrectly or too much heat while or immediately after painting. Some other painting mistakes can cause it.
Repair means sanding out the cracks and repainting. Go to a high end paint shop for advice. Last edited by overcoil; 04-03-2018 at 08:31 PM.. |

Seems to be a re-painted section that has been badly done, the cracking seems to extend only from what seems to be a fuzzy blend line on the left to what looks on the right more like a tape line in the first metal crease from the outside of the panel.

My main Q would be what else needed/got repaired - time to have a body shop give it a go-over w/ a paint gauge. But if it really is just paint (no bondo) then one possibility is that this is where you would get damage if s/b got stupid and closed the door on the seatbelt buckle, then got a quick cosmetic repair.

Both bumpers on my CPO were repainted. The paint jobs are less than stellar. My guess is they sprayed it on the lot in order to CPO it. Being in the city bumper chips are pretty common. There's contamination and bad coverage on both.
I found out when I was getting my bumpers Xpeled. If I had known before I would have had them repainted, but at this point I don't really care. Your issue I would care much more about. My bumpers can only really be noticed during detailing and stuff like that.

Bummer. Sad when a CPO car can get certified like that after getting shoddy work done at what was surely their local contract body shop. I hate that dealerships can operate like that and get away with it. Would be nice if car companies like BMW had a handful of regional collision/refurbishing centers that are actually owned and operated themselves. That way the cars can be truly refurbished and certified to a higher standard than what we are seeing here. Wishful thinking, I know.
OP - I'd take it back ASAP and ask them what they can do to resolve this issue for you.
