Slow in the Fast Lane
Was following an X5 at 30 in a 35 zone today, then she stopped for a traffic circle. Well we have these drivers and we are just glad to not be one (we think). But why in the Ultimate Driving Machine? Really?
Then again, the same driver in a less competent vehicle would probably be even slower! So when you are talking to one of your pokey friends or relatives, recommend a Bimmer. It is a little embarrassing for the marque but we'll all drive just a bit less slowly. Recommend the standard wheels and tires which are better for city driving. And take a tiny bit of responsibility for the planet while you are at it, recommend the smaller engine, which is more than adequate. |

This post was far more coherent than a speech transcript and I don't think the OP was lying......

The first time I read it I was like "wut?" Second time, it made sense. Fuck if I can make sense of anything the orange man says.

Thanks Pete
I was just offering a commentary The Ultimate Driving Machine does more than just go fast, it can give a timid driver confidence, and with all the nannies in play it can give the untalented driver some skills. And since we all have our moments and hopefully our golden years, it can provide these to us all at times. |

First: This post does not belong in 2Addicts because it is not specific to a 2 Series.
Second: In both the forum that this post should be in and the General Automotive forum, there are gobs of discussions about poor driving etiquette, both as a topic and as commentary to a (sometimes loosely) related topic. Here's one. Here's another. Third: Please don't use the forum as a bitch-session board. The above links demonstrate that you're not bringing up anything new. Fourth: The behavior you allude to is not BMW-specific. It's far from it. Please stop perpetuating stereotypes that have no situational merit. Finally: Good grammar helps prevent giggling by others. Learn some more. Thank you for your time, Herr Viffermike von Mannschaft Your friendly but occasionally cantankerous neighborhood forum deputy

My grandmother-in-law spent her husband's life insurance (or a good part of it) on a brand new '79 Trans Am that she drove about 25mph everywhere. My wife really appreciated betting to borrow it in her youth, especially since it was 'known' to be a nice old lady driving it, so she didn't get much police attention if she kept the crazy stuff to the country roads (fun fact - you can jump these off a 30" parking lot shelf without bending the chassis badly enough to lock the doors shut, if you are going at least 30mph at the time).

Just a slight correction:
There are no "Fast Lanes". There are "driving lanes" and "passing lanes". Believing you should be driving in the left lane because you are exceeding the speed limit is incorrect thinking. Stay right, and when approaching slower traffic, signal to pass, pass, and then return to the driving lane. Remember, there is always going to be someone driving faster than you are. Road rage occurs when they run up on your bumper because you're riding the left lane when you shouldn't be. A little tip: LE will radar the left lane more just because of speeders. Stay right to be right! |
