When should I wax?
My 240 is 4 months old. When is the right time to give it its first wax job? I have 3m clear wrap on the front bumper, fenders and hood. Any recommendations on what product(s) to use would also be appreciated.

I checked out lenosgarage. Looks like a good product but at $44US with shipping it would cost me around $65 of my meek Canadian dollars. Still wondering how soon I should wax. I was thinking of waiting until the fall.

You can go by interval or you can go buy feeling a freshly washed surface for 'like new' smoothness or another method is that after it rains the water beeds into tiny tight balls and even how it rolls of the paint. Probably some good YouTube videos like; Ammo NY or any quality brand for info. Be sure to use high quality microfiber applicators and buffing and drying clothes - because that is where you can get swirl marks. I also like high quality foam applicators for wax application - and I make sure the applicatir is coated with product or even a sprites of water, never wiping dry applicator along the paint. When drying I spritz a Quick Detailer on the drying towel to aid lubricity and prevent water spots. Use dedicated car wash soap. There are a lot of good waxes at auto-parts or WalMart style stores. I like waxes without cleansers in them. And BMW dealership sell good quality waxes and washes. Just browse this forum for ideas. And you can spot wax to aid in protecting surfaces that get a lot of sun like any horizontal surface. Or the lower panels behind the wheels that get a lot of road kick-up. Right now the car has the "like new" feel and water beads nicely. It couldn't hurt to wax now and again before winter. I have a bottle of Meguiars NXT I will try out and go from there. Keeping the applicator wet is a good tip. Thanks

remember if you drop that applicator on the ground don't reuse it, wash it with liquid laundry detergent in washing-machine. make sure your drying towel is high quality microfiber and new - same with the wax buffing towel.

I wax my cars in the fall and spring, since moderns paints are so resilient. I'll use a spray wax sporadically though during my weekly washes if it looks like it needs it though.

Just check out Detailers Domain for any one of their new car prep videos. You would be surprised at how many contaminants are on a new car.
Personally this is how I picked up my car - with all of the plastic on it. I used Sonax Fallout cleaner to remove the iron deposits (there was quite a bit) then wash and clay to start. I decided to go with Lusso Oro wax from day one they Optimum spray wax post wash. A year and a half later my car looks better than new.

The correct answer is wax whenever you can. If you haven't done a full wax yet since getting it, do it now. Then afterward, get yourself a bottle of spray wax and use it when you're drying the car after every wash.

I use a polymer wax, because it lasts a lot longer and I don't have time to redo a carnuba every month or two. I also use spray wax finish at each wash (Griots for both). With a new car, you shouldn't need products that "polish" - shorthand for abrasives that wear down the clearcoat. If you don't grit it up to cause swirls, you won't need this for a while; avoid dealer wash, and use a good microfiber mitt. Also keep some detail spray and a microfiber cloth to wipe off bird droppings or other things before they can set in and stain the finish (never paper towels for that, they are like mild sandpaper).

Use Chemical Guys Jetseal followed by butter wax or Pete's 53 wax. Then use Chemical guys V07 as a quick detailer in between washes. The combo is dynamite. I used it on day #1 on my new M240i. Lol I didn't even let the dealership wash it or vacuum it. I even removed some of the stickers lol.

For the longest-lasting results, do it once, buff it, and then apply and buff it again. Anytime, after washing the car, I will also spray it with a products such as Mother's California Gold® Instant Detailer (If I have time) it's a quick way to make it super shiny. Spray it on, wait a couple of minutes, buff it off. (Much quicker than waxing) "Treat your paint to a showroom sparkle that’s wet and striking. Whether you want to clear a layer of dust or prepare for the judges, use California Gold® Instant Detailer. Its unique formula will clean off fingerprints, smudges and dust, and hide minor imperfections and spider-webbing. ... whenever you need your ride to look freshly detailed." I've used clay bar and dual coats of RejeX on every new car for the past decade; and wouldn't ever wax again.
