Best way to 1/4 mile
Couple friend/coworkers with 5.0 mustangs talked me into taking the daily driver to drag strip with them...not wanting to embarrass my self too badly I came here to seek knowledge of how to lunch the m235i with ZF8...
Did some research and it appeared to me that most people get their best time with-out the aid of launch control... So my question for those who do go to the drag strip is... what mood should the car be in? And how do you achieve the best possible launch? Thanks all! |

There are a lot of factors here, how well is the trace prepped being a big one.
I just came from a '15 Mustang GT and they are very hard to launch with stock tires due to the halfshafts and resulting wheel hop so you just might be fine. I would experiment with both traction control on and off but would think that going to Sport would help. You can also play with the air pressure a bit. I'm sure there are a few guys on here that have already done this, I am still very new to this side of things and I have an x-drive so I won't have to deal with those issues anymore. Good luck and most of all, have fun! |

Auto or Manual?
Any power adders? Add 4 gallons of e-85 to full tank, than drive till almost empty and pull up to the dragstrip. You want no more quarter tank. If you cant find e-85, order some TORCO off amazon or ebay. Follow instructions. Drive the car for about 25 mins before dragging so the DME can adapt to your new fuel octane settings. Take everything out of the car you possible can. Headrests your not using, trunk mat, everything you possible can. Use all your washer fluid on the way down, etc... If on stock tires, lower PSI to grab better. Don't go through the water box. When at the strip, keep it in S+ and gearshift to left and when you see both lights turn yellow on both sides, Stand on that brake and gas... when green let off brake. Let the car auto shift. good luck!

I would try this:
DTC ON, and either shifter in DS or in M2 Reason are.... DTC ON will allow a bit more spin without cutting throttle, DTC ON implies comfort suspension which might help the car traction better than when suspension is in sport mode like when in Sport+ or DSC OFF Also DTC will have comfort throttle so it will be less touchy so might help you with wheel spin M1 is a really low gear so launching in M2 might help you save a shift and avoid spinning too... Try experimenting with that maybe some in DS and some in M2... and if you launch in M2 don't forget to shift |

Let us know how it goes. I have a couple buddies with mustang 5.0s. I'm hoping I can put them to shame when we eventually go. I'm FBO map7 with 3.5 gallons of e85.
Hoping I can even give my buddy in his stingray a run for his money but I am a little doubtful. |

Wouldnt you recommend race fuel over e85 mix? Would there be any benefit to mixing e85 with race fuel? Slight cooling advantage? Would that make up for the octane difference?

Hahah thanks for all the input guys! I'm not looking to be faster than anyone haha but just able to use the car to its full potential...
@bryan_f22 The car is a automatic, I have fabspeed sport car and a aFe intake that's about it. Living here in vancouver we don't have any E85... so I use 94 pump gas... I won't do any burnout... so I'll pass the water box, I guess sport plus mode with sport shift and load the torque converter abit? Should I use launch control? I never tried and scared of trying hahaha! I would be more than happy with a 13 flat... but hard to say... @pikcachu dsc off mode don't that put the car in comfort mode? |

launch control yes, practice before you get there.
Why not race gas? Hard to find and very expensive. Hence why i said to try torco. 20$ can make that 94 into 108. I'm not the fastest 235, but im 11.8 on 93 pump gas @ 115. Ive done many pulls, and have tried numerous ways. Sport + auto shift with launch control is the best results for awd.

Keeping it in sport+ break boost to about 1750 rpm and launching like that works best for me. And i shift at about 5900-6000

Sport+ = suspension in sport, drivetrain in sport and DTC ON Sport = depends how you configure it but could be only susp. sport, only drivetrain in sport or both |
