Rev Hang

https://www.carthrottle.com/post/rev...heads-hate-it/

Anyone suspect our cars might do this to a small degree? I always feel like 1st to 2nd takes forever to come down.

oh absolutely. I can never time a full throttle shift right in this car, especially when i get out of my E30 where the revs drop immediately. I would love for that to go away forever.

My 2005 Mustang GT was the first car I ever owned that did this. The M235i does it as well. In comparison, the revs on my Kawasaki Z1000 instantly drop between shifts so much so that I have to apply a slight bit of throttle before releasing the clutch to get a smooth shift.

Every drive-by-wire turbo car I've owned had some level of rev hang. It's one of those things you'll just have to get used to. It's really not that bad on this car, though. Also, IIRC, these cars also cut ignition when the clutch pedal is depressed to keep the power up (boost) between gears. Has worked great for me so far when WOT going through the gears. Driving around town there's really no way to stop the rev hang, but as I said, it's not that bad where a tune is needed to mitigate it, like the earlier VW/Audi turbo cars I was driving.

To be honest, I think our cars don't really have rev hang at all. Compared to a TSI VW or a Honda especially. A little more than my old e36 328i, but no where NEAR the rev hang of an old M62 E39 540i with a 6 speed....the vast majority of modern cars are really bad with it, but Porsche and BMW have somehow managed to barely do it.

Try to tilt your seat back and also apply a little bit of throttle during shifts...should make them perfect. The reason it's not smooth is the soft engine mounts, not the rev hang.

I don't really notice this. On my prior car, the revs would actually go up about 250 and hang. It was super annoying!

I would agree. I don't notice any rev hang and can bang the gears no problem. What screws me up is the long clutch pedal.

if you want to experience rev hang, go drive a late model Honda or Ford product. Utterly terrible.

My '08 Si hangs for what seems like a full second so I don't notice any in this car if it is there. You can tune it out but I never did.

That being said I still find myself having trouble being consistently smooth, primarily at low speed, and rev matching for a 2 gear drop has been tough with comfort throttle.
