This is why I buy my cars used. Got my 2015 235i CPO about 3 months ago with 7k miles and 1%APR.
Much of the negative equity was out of the car when I bought it. Sets me up to trade it in whenever I want with little loss. Also I would still get a M2 over the m240....I think |

Why should we be upset? There are always better, faster, newer cars available no matter what you currently drive. The new (insert sexy car here) is great, but it doesn't make me like my M235i any less. It's still great and it's still way more capable as a car than I am as a driver.

In a more broad sense (when you start swapping out major components), it's really hard to say, because no one has taken either platform to its limits yet. The B58 has some drawbacks in that regard though. The intercooler on the B58 is integrated in to the intake, so if you're going for really big power, that's a problem you're going to have to solve, and adding a full intake system to your parts list isn't going to be cheap. With the M4, the plumbing is there. You'd just need a different intercooler (granted, there are space constraints). The S55 has better base components as well: pistons, crank, rods. The parts list for a B58-based, big-HP build is going to get expensive quickly.

Kinda reminds me of the monkey experiment. The M235i is the cucumber and along comes the grape (aka M240i)

370 lbft of torque is a looooot (is that 40+ from today?).
I hope it will be possible to turn off rev match without disabling the traction control. M2 ppl are complaining a lot about that. |

Because AMERICA lol
The same thing happens with the Golf MK7. In Europe there are slower versions, but here we get the 1.8T and up. It is less options for sure, but this helps keep the cost down for these higher end models. The dealers spend less money in lot space, inventory, marketing, etc. It's not all bad to have fewer options. |
