Mineral Gray paint (B39) touch up problem

Anyone notice that the OEM paint in this color is black? It looks black, dries black, straight up is black.

I've had 3 different tubes in my hand and all of them are black instead of gray.

Yep. Thought the parts counter got it wrong. Took it back, but it's the right color (??). I thought it was just me. Dr. Colorchip was ok, but I found that it was better suited for "bigger" jobs i.e. hood, but for touching up a nick here & there, found it to be a bit of pain to use. Probably just me though...

Takes a little bit of skill to get it right but after you do it once or twice it's pretty damn fool proof. Most important the color is spot on. Most of it is being patient and letting it dry but not too much before buffing off.

Sorry OP for highjacking thread, but...

Would Dr. Chip work on reflectors? I got MW front reflectors but the color match is still off. Trying to figure out some solution as it bothers the f out of me.

I don't think it would be great for that. Get from IND? They're good about replacing stuff that isn't perfect.

That's where it's from, haha. I bought it knowing there wouldn't be perfect color match with Mineral White. They were really good about mentioning it. It's just inherent with that specific color.

Yeah MW is a bitch when it comes to that sort of thing unfortunately. I'd suggest body shop for a respray but that could well be throwing good money after bad.

One thing you could try. I believe turtle wax but I know somebody makes a white wax. Used it on my mom's Volvo really made it pop. Since its tinted if you wax everything it may even it all out. Worth a shot and short money at like $10 if memory serves.

Zymol makes a "creme" wax for light colors and "carbon" for dark colors.

I've used Dr. Colorchip for my MG F30 and it works quite well. Remember to wipe the touch-up area with alcohol prior to applying the paint - that way any wax or even body oil from touching the area will be removed and the paint will stick better.

Had the same problem. I bought a service loaner 328 at a dealer in 2013. there was one spot that needed touch-up, but when the service department did it, it looked black. When I examined the bottle of mineral gray paint, it looked really close to black. They had to wet sand to remove it and order some new paint.

I had to use mine last week and it's perfect. I have the two pack of bottles with integral brushes, I guess they're the same in the US. The base colour needs a lot of shaking before you use it and it helps to warm the bottle (put it in a tight trouser pocket whilst you're doing your prep...).

No amount of stirring, mixing, heating etc does anything for that paint. It is black in every sense of the word. I've had 3 OEM BMW sets in my hand, not one of them differed in any way.

Last week I ordered Estoril Blue touchup paint from: automotivetouchup.com
They custom mix paint when you order to match your paint code. I recently used the paint and it matches perfectly.
I would give them a shot $13.90 shipping for a half ounce bottle.
