+1 for MPE

After hearing both at the dealer, I couldn't settle for the stock exhaust.

I was definitely disappointed with the stock exhaust. I got the MPE installed after one week of having the car, and I love it!!

So when people talk about this cut notch in the stock piping aft of the muffler, is it a ~1mm wide ground-in mark that wraps the pipe located about 5 inches aft of the muffler? I'm seeing this on my 2016 M235.

A few questions for the AWE exhaust folks:

Do you have ASD coded out?

Roughly what price would I be looking at for the AWE exhaust and midpipe installed?

Would I have BMW warranty issues when I bring the car in for oil changes at the dealer?

Would either part impact long-term reliability? I'm hoping for this to be my DD for the next ~7-10 years!

ASD is coded out for me because I was getting some drone with it enabled. Now all I hear is the pure exhaust sound and its amazing.

Price wise I got the exhaust/Midpipe with the 90mm chrome tips for ~$1500. Jeff at TGS is a good guy to work with. I went to a DIY auto shop so I could use the lift to install mine, took about an hr and a half total, $37. A shop would likely charge 100-150 depending on where you are located.

There are absolutely zero warranty implications, same goes for reliability.

My suggestion, go for it...it's seriously amazing. The videos that are out there don't really do it justice...in person is so nice.

Thanks for the info! I'll shoot Jeff a note soon to inquire.

I had a bit of a twist and turn on ordering a M235 for my son and it looks like the one he wants has the MPE. I was over at the dealership and I was very impressed by the sound. We have an F15 M Sport and if there is one thing I enjoy is the cold starts in the morning. I've been tempted to put an MPE on my wife's F15 but I think it would be too aggressive for her...we have an M Sport and she drives in Eco Mode just to put things in perspective.

So a couple of questions:

1) is there any performance gain with MPE on the M235?
2) would the ASD not be turned off if the car was built with the MPE? I guess I'm saying why would you need it if you have the MPE?

1 ) Not much, if at all. BMW touts "up to 5 HP / 3 ft*lb" gains for "certain models", but the M235i isn't one for which they make an explicit claim.
2 ) Nope. I do believe the MPE is a port-installed option, so it gets bolted on in NJ and the ASD remains as it came from the factory. You'll still need to disable it if you don't want it.

Humm, I'll have to figure out if I want the ASD or not. As soon as the car comes in I'm having it coded so that would be the time to disable it. Did I hear that it can be unplugged? If so, does anyone have details on that? That would be the better way to go giving me a bit more flexibility if that were a possibility.

No, it can't be unplugged, as that takes the rest of the radio with it in the 2-series, unlike higher series.

It can be removed via an add-on harness (http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1202389) or via coding. A number of people (myself included) with the harmon kardon system can hear a hiss introduced by the ASD module. If you have it coded, the hiss remains. If you remove it via the harness, the hiss appears to go away. I don't know if people with the base radio system have heard the hiss.

You can certainly test it for free with trivial effort, though. Drive the car as-delivered (both comfort and sport modes) with the radio off. That lets you hear the car with ASD. Then, pull the radio fuse in fuse panel under the trunk floor and repeat the drive. That gives you the car without ASD. Decide how you feel about it then.
