I've owned several Audis, I can say that their quattro system is incredible. I have plowed through snow in the mountains with my old V6 A4 when there was a line of cars on the side of the road that couldn't move including other 4wd cars. I haven't had the pleasure of owning an Xdrive so I can't compare the two. I wasn't very impressed with their 6 speed DCT, but the 7 speed DCT they put in the S4 etc. is a great tranny. One of the reasons I went with the 235 is because the 8spd shifted so much better than the Audi 6 speed DCT.

I still miss my B5 S4, under powered by today's standards but that was a great little car. You're 100% right that thing with Blizzaks on it was like a mountain goat. I literally drove it up a ski trail one day. Beyond that, I think 99% of bad weather driving is knowing what the hell you're doing and what you car can / should be doing. I got an invite from ACNA for a $300 winter driving course in NH, if anyone is interested PM me for details.

I paid well below MSRP for a fully loaded m235i and it already has a ton of power, more than I'll ever be able to use on a road, legally. The M2 is a good value if you can get the MT variant at MSRP but that's still going to be roughly about $10k+ than I paid.
My point exactly

I'm wondering if I did the right thing now. The window sticker price of mine, including destination, was $51,295. The MSRP of the manual M2 with the Executive Package is $53,945, a difference of $2650.

I got a 6% discount, and assuming there will be no discount on the M2 for a year or so, the difference between what I paid and the M2 is about $5700.

Overall, I'm happy with the M235i. I'm happy with its performance, and it's definitely the highest quality car I have ever owned. Its performance is probably about 90% that of the M2, and I don't think the performance difference alone would be worth the extra $5700.

But the M2 has one thing over the M235i, in spades if you ask me, and that's appearance. The M2 looks like a bad-a$$.

If I had one complaint about my M235i, it's that it looks sort of bland. I like everything else about it, but wish it looked a bit more aggressive. The M2 is it for me. I hope there's one in my future.

For me holding out until 2018 until or if i swap my car, Going for an M2 is nice then when its been out for a while and all so called "Child sicknesses " Have been resolved, And hopefully it will come with a great price and and LCI lift on it should be good enough for swapping out my M235i by then. Unless my family situation changes and i am in need of a bigger car :'(

You know, reading this, everyone is assuming there's going to be a sufficient supply of M2s such that anyone who wants one can get it at MSRP or less. Considering its current delay is due to BMW saturating the plant where it will be produced with what I assume to be higher margin models, that may not be the case.

Previous announcements notwithstanding, they may produce a fairly limited number, all or most of which sell for a premium.

I wouldn't go as far as calling the M235i "bland", but I do LOVE the more aggressive M2 styling. I'm hoping in the future someone makes an M2 replica body kit, I would be all over it.

This. Friends dealer in PA says he will add 10k to the price.
I think I read somewhere the UK is only getting 500 of them.

I expect some high demand mark-up.

The MT M2 pricing is a steal. Compared to my 2014 M235i which had a list price of $51,400, the MT M2 is only slightly more expensive and it is loaded with everything I have on my F22. On my F22, I got a reasonably good deal with euro delivery and my friendly dealer discount. Not sure if the M2 will get the ED discount in year 1, but the MT version is a great deal nonetheless.

My M235i xDrive cabriolet with quite a few options, including premium pkge enhanced listed at $61.5K Cdn (equal to approx $43K USD) - and I got a good discount off that...
Currency arbitrage is nice when it is working in your favor, but it was just a few years ago when you guys up north were getting comprehensively screwed when the Loonie was flying high and the US dollar was in the toilet. But if you have a job that pays in US dollars but you live in Canada you must be loving life right now - I have a good friend in that situation. She married a Canadian and lives in St. Stephen, NB but works in Calais, ME.

On my Euro Delivery trip last summer it felt like all of Europe was on sale compared to my last one in 2011. ~$1.10 to the Euro vs. ~$1.50! And notably cheaper gas too for the double plus good savings. Still expensive compared to the US for just about everything, but not ridiculous like in '11.

Well by looking at the cost of the M2 Mperf exhaust, lack of discounts and availability of actually getting a car, I think only on paper are they going to be so close now.....
M235 exhaust is about 1/2 for essentially the same thing (ie stainless exhaust not ti). Let's see what the other upgrades go for......
