How many trips to the dealer have you had in your 2?
Hey guys.
I am running out of lease on my current car and have been wanting a BMW for a long time. My only hold up is that living in NW Montana means my closest dealer is well over 200 miles away. As you kind folks live with these cars, day in day out, is buying a BMW that far from a dealer something you can recommend? My alternative is a Golf R, we have a dealer here locally, that is the only reason it's in the running. Thanks! |

I've been a bunch of times. The first to pick up the car, the rest for the free car washes
To be serious, I've had no issues with the car and no reason for a dealer visit other than mentioned above. |

Well.... with BMW you get free oil changes and maintenance for the duration of the warranty. Off the top of my head, it would mean oil/filter changes and brake pad replacements. From your perspective it would mean a 400 mile round trip? FWIW, some dealerships (don't know if BMW does that) will offer coming to your home, picking up your car and returning it when the work is done. Of course you risk having a total stranger drive your car. I would check with the BMW dealer. I am sure you are not the only person, in Montana, with your concern.
In terms of car defects which need to be addressed, I have not had to make a trip to the dealership during my 7 months of ownership. Good luck. YMMV. |

14 months of ownership and only 2 visits to my dealer. The first visit was for their so-called "Encore Delivery" which was "let's go over anything you want to know about your car, but didn't ask the first time" deal. I really appreciated the one-on-one treatment.
Second visit was for the free and mandatory 12 month oil change and general checkup of the car. Frankly, if I had to drive a long distance, I would view it as an opportunity to enjoy my car, plus some royalty treatment at my dealer.

Once. For its annual maintenance. The first new car I've ever owned over the course of thirty years where I didn't have to bring a car in for something.

At 4058 miles I had to replace my electric cooling fan. My dealer is 5 miles away. I had a loaner (a new 335i M Sport) for two days. I really couldn't imagine having to go 200 miles to my dealership, but if it came down to a choice between a new VW and a new BMW, I'd take make the trip. No offense to VW's, they're nice cars.
I absolutely love my car. |

I've been to the dealer twice. Once for one year free service and once for stalling which was part of the fuel pump recall.
Mine was one of the first M235i with December 3, 2013 production date. |

Ive been 4 times, actually my car has spent a total of 3 weeks, maybe a bit more at the dealer in the year and a half ive owned it.
Exhaust developed a rattle, and my navigation started to restart itself. First trip for this, car was in there a week, they replaced the nav screen etc. Get the car back, within a few days starts again, goes back in, needed a new computer entirely I guess. Took another week and a half. (Exhaust was replaced on the first trip) It is going in this Thursday because of clicking from passenger side wheel, and minor pop from front suspension in the morning for some reason. Will also have them address the rattle drivers side above my head, rear deck/third break light, passenger side door panel, and center console area near the middle speaker there is a rattle sometime. It doesn't bother me too much, its not like the rattles are killing me, but there is one section of highway on my way to work, that was paved by... lets call them jerks... the asphalt is swirly, and causes very odd vibrations in the car, and that section (its a few miles) rattles the car like crazy. If it weren't for that, I don't think I would even realize the car is rattling.

6 months, 2900 miles, zero issues for the 235i. Knock on wood but for the most part, my last 3 BMW's (incl. this one) were relatively repair free. Just maintenance. 140k miles between the 3 cars.
You could do your own oil changes for probably $50 or less instead of spending the time/money on gas for the oil services.

Free swirls in your paint finish? I'm sure they do.

Just once in the winter. Hit a pothole which created a rupture in the RFT wall and needed the tire changed.

5 months, 7200 miles. No rattles, no problems, no dealer visits. Good news is that my office is right next door to the dealer. I can walk to work after a service drop off. It's like 200 yards door to door.

Yours much be one of the two I've seen on the road in Seattle. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a 2014 6MT car. Cheers!
