Awesome, thanks for this.
I bought the code for my dad's E89 (Z4) because I didn't have the cable or the knowledge how to code or interact with the E series. Since I'm already familiar with Esys and coding my F22, I'm hoping this will be easy. One question though, is 'nbt.exe' part of ESys / should it already be installed on my system? |

I updated my car to the 2015-1 Maps the other day, and it didn't ask me for an FSC.
Curious if other people had the same experience? We'll see what happens on the next version.. |

So this is interesting and I have a theory.
With the new 2 Series convertible announcement, BMW said the car will get "FREE OTA map and software updates." I wonder if this is silently switching for us, too? Maybe you just have to pay for the media/shipping and they don't require a code anymore? Just my speculation! My second guess is, maybe moving minor versions is free? (2014-2 --> 2015-1, or 2015-1 --> 2015-2 is free but you'd pay for 2014-1 --> 2015-1 and beyond?) |

The F23 will have different hardware allowing for OTA updates. The F22 does not yet have that hardware. Pretty lame, but it is what it is.
Edit: Our F22s have 3G cards. The F23 comes equipped with LTE cards, which will allow for data transfer fast enough to transmit the updates. |

Should have been more clear in my last post as I know it's a matter of 3G vs. LTE in the F22/F23: What I meant to imply was that maybe we won't be required to pay anymore either. The mapping system itself isn't changing nor is the data, BMW still has to engineer the updates -- why make it free for one car and not the others? Maybe dealers will still charge to get the discs or to perform the update for you but maybe they will be unlocking this and making the updates themselves free across the board.

Loading the 2015-1 files to a flash drive right now. Will report back if this works for me. Interesting that my 2/2014 built M235i has 2013-3 maps loaded from the factory.

No joy. The update for my car is asking for a code during the update. I can use ESYS and created a new DE.fsc file as shown above, but the NBT.exe will not run and gives "not recognized command or program" error.
** Update ** Turns out the program is for CIC and not NBT cars like ours. Looking for another software solution now. Last edited by Delnari; 11-09-2014 at 06:45 PM.. |

Finally, installed after learning how to generate the new code. Special thanks to Zipphreak for helping me get this done.
Steps that were successful for me.

It's not a bad idea but then what's the point of getting the tech package with nav in the first place? Honestly, I'm a huge tech person and love Google Maps, Waze, and the freshness of these products, but at the end of the day, I just want an integrated solution; no wires, no fuss.
And like zipphreak said, the challenge is pretty cool too =] |

I'm coming from a CSC system, so bear with me here..
I'm seeing that brand new 2015 cars seem not to ask for an FSC code for the 2015.2 update. Is that true? Also - if I do end up needing a FSC code, can I just shutdown & unplug the update USB and go back to my slightly older maps until I get the code to finish the update... or am I hosed until I enter the code? CSC DVDs were much simpler |
