M Side Emblems
So I just left the New Hamshire Auto Show, and they had an Estoril Blue M235i there...with M badge side emblems on the front quarter panels. This car is from the same dealer that I bought mine from. The others I saw in the lot including mine did not come with M badges on the sides. Did anyone else get them on their M235i and if so...how?

Interesting. Good to know. I wonder why they removed them for the 2015 MY. I thought they looked good as well.

Hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but I can't seem to find out where to buy the correct tinted M badges for my 2015 M235i. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks! |

I think I remember someone saying that the place they were able to find the darker tinted badges was the ones listed under the X5 M50d or M550d iirc.

Perfect. Can I just take that part number to BMW dealership and order? Or is there somewhere online I can get it from? I don't see a way to order it through the realoem website. I might be blind haha.

I've noticed a number of rebadged cars on the road and I'm curious as to the reasoning behind it. Are folks embarrassed by the brand or model they are driving? Or, are they playing "sleeper?"

That's kind of what I thought. So, the other guy isn't real sure what he's up against. And if you lose, he still doesn't know what he beat. Heh!

Jewelry gets applied because the majority of the market likes the look, just as they do on people. When we researched vehicles without badges, we learned that most folks felt the properties (usually fiberglass models painted to look quite real) looked bare or somehow cheaper/undressed...something was missing. Badges also give some owners "bragging rights" for purposes of gaining status. We've heard this in research for decades. The "M" also feeds this desire. Each decision about planning a car involves determining what needs to be done to gain the sale without overshooting the cost required. Each piece of jewelry, each badge, is considered before the usual $3 - $9 (depending on size and if the letters are connected or individual pieces) is applied to each of tens to hundreds of thousands of units to be produced. It's not so much about living up to expectations as it is about helping to close the sale. Debadgers (including me) are a very small percentage of the overall market. We are outliers, even among BMW owners. Just as sure as most people think their significant other looks more dressed up with jewelry, most will continue to think the same of their cars. |

Interesting analogy. And I do agree how much the bling of a badge places on a car's desirability (and marketability). I've had them on previous automobiles. From ZR's to Z0 to Carrera and Turbo (scripting on the deck lid). And I might say that these models did live up to their badging, in one shape or another.

I will add another thought on debadging. I have found that removing the badges also sparks conversation with those who do not know, but are interested enough to ask. I enjoy those discussions more, with current BMW owners and potential new owners. Of course, the M235 (and 228 for that matter) are still new enough that they are not too common - so they draw inquiries.

BMW and Merc are looked at entirely differently. BMW with the younger crowd. My Sons Pals all drooled over my e92(debadged)....they thought it was an M3. |
