Seems like the trunk lip collects alot of dirt, design flaw as the lip doesnt angle down to let water run off

Yuck! Never had this issue with my AW 128i. Most of it settled on the the lip but behind the bottom edge of the trunk lid.

I thought you were going to talk about the hinge area, anything that falls in there is so hard to get out, and I bet is why my tail light got water in it in the first place

I doubt engineers are really concerned about ways to keep you from having to wash your car when designing it...not high on the priority list. I have also noticed that dirt does collect there too. I would not call it a defect though.

I washed my car for the first time the other day and was analyzing just where the problem areas we going to be. You can tell where some places drain, others hold moisture, etc. it's a learning process with each new car.

We got up to 38F over the weekend, so ice wasn't forming, so out came the hose and bucket! Two pairs of latex gloves helped, but my hands were quite red by the time the car was clean and dry. The part of the car the OP points out is always the dirtiest, but looks better today!

No need for the hose in the winter, just need a bucket, two towels, and Optimum No Rinse.

Need to learn more about this. The cars get so dirty, I wind up foaming them twice before washing. |
