The HK sail panels are $42.79 each and come with a tweeter. The tweeters are $52.98 and sold in pairs. I suppose I could sell the tweeters for $25, but I'm guessing there is no market for this. I wonder if the parts department will take them back as part number 65139226357 and credit me, but this doesn't seem likely without some cooperation from someone. Maybe my service advisor can help out.
Either that or just buy a pair of standard sail panel covers and route a hole out of them that fits the tweeter. Since the tweeter already has a mesh grill, it will be protected. Just don't know if it will end up angled appropriately.

So I've upgraded the stock subs with the subs from the Jehnert Flatline kit. The sound is incredible. They are not yet broken in, but they play louder and dig much deeper, while maintaining sound fidelity across their range. No muddy mid bass, and the subs reproduce down to 50hz easily.
Time is limited, so I haven't had time to put the door speakers in. Plus I still have to figure out how I'm going to do the doors, since I don't have a proper tweeter mount yet. The subs were quite a struggle to do the first side. The second side was much easier once I figured out what I needed, what to take apart, etc. I'll do a write up for those interested. There are definitely a few pitfalls you want to avoid with replacing the underseat subs. Here is a pic of the two subs and the stock enclosure. The top left is the Jehnert and the bottom is the stock.

Jehnert woofers are known to be one of the best option for midbass response.
I'm getting fairly nice midbass boost from the four 100mm speaker replaced. There is still improvement needed for the bass but it has not been my priority. I may replace them later with a cheaper option than the Jehnert ones as they go over $500. I would use existing sail pieces and drill holes for the tweeters as you can always buy sail piece later if you need to switch back to stock. |

I'll also be replacing the rear speakers with a nice pair I have from days past and considering the Match pp82dsp for the future if I decide I want more volume.

Just replaced the stock (non HK) speakers in the doors and rear deck with 4" JBL GTO 429s. Like everyone else noticed, the increase in sound was immediately noticeable, especially on the high end. Also removed the center deck speaker to get more stereo clarity.
Will post pics later, but even the local installer did not think much of the stock speakers. No tweeters, only midrange 4s. The magnets were horribly small. Very disappointing but I guess they had to cut somewhere to put the rest of the car together. I think next up is replacing the underseat woofers with Audison or Jehnert, maybe an extra amp to push it all properly.

I almost bought them for my previous 128i from them. Keep in mind that the Jehnerts are not true subwoofers and may not be the best option if there is no separate sub installed. The Focal ones are probably the best ones but they are pricey ($800 pair). I've been looking for other options and this one looks very promising http://www.crutchfield.com/p_068RTW8...84.html?tp=111 It is well made and goes from 32 to 5KHz which is suitable for midbass and sub frequencies. The best part is that they are only $200 a pair. |

These are also sold by MusicarNW and you can buy a spacer made by earthquake. 120 each and are supposed to play better down low than the Jehnerts, but less so with midbass. If the mids extend down low enough, then these might work well. http://www.amazon.com/Earthquake-SWS.../dp/B003R5NS9U

Anyone have the part numbers and a possible link to the HK sails? Installer is convinced that moving the tweeters up to the sails would definitely improve clarity.
