2015 228i vibartion/shudder at idle
I recently bought my first ever BMW: a new 2015 228i xdrive. It drives great but I notice sometimes at idle when stopped at a red light I can feel the vibrations change in the passenger compartment, almost like a subtle shuddering. It's kind of hard to describe. I hate the auto start/stop and always keep it off so the engine is always idling at red lights.
Is this normal? |

Is there anything small and hard rattling around in there? Maybe a pen or a phone? If nothings loose in the car then I would say thats normal. Check with your dealer if it keeps happening.

I don't hear any kind of rattle or anything like that. It's as if I'm feeling subtle changes in how the engine idles, if that makes sense? Like the frequency of the vibration changes.

Would you ever go to a dealer & test drive a comparison vehicle?
If your used to six or eight cylinder engines or even front wheel transverse engined four cylinder cars, maybe the four cylinder in the 2 series has subtle vibrations your not used to. |

I described what I was experiencing to one of the techs when I went back to the dealership to pick up my license plate and he claimed it's normal, but he didn't actually sit in the car or anything though. It really hasn't bothered me enough to take it back to the dealer to be honest. I'll probably just talk to them about it when I bring it in for the first maintenance at 10k miles, it won't be too long as I already have 2000 on it. |

imo BMW has the DME programed poorly to fix/patch another issue to which the car ran and idled better but would stall on occasion. I speculate not knowing all the details but my personal experience has been the new BMW's have a rough idle when not fully warmed up or just idling in the driveway. I have N52 left it for service and the loaner did the same idle issue with an N20.
