Im planning to skip the tpms for my winter setup, its $300+ for a set ...call me cheap but my winter set is prbly going to run around $1000 wheels&tires so I dont see the need for tpms
Any thoughts? Can we code out the warning message?

I never put TPMS in my old GTI and all it did was light a warning. Does anybody know if our BMW's will still run OK with no TPMS. Are we sure that they didn't code something in to force the car into some sort of "safe" mode if we have no TPMS?

If you're going to get them do it now. They need to remove the tires to install and remount. So you'll be paying extra labor and it's not great for the tires.

Its a winter setup and its meant to be beaten up...i drove for 15 years before tpms came out lol

Yes I got BBS SR with the high performance Blizzak. Including the rebate card it came out to under $1900 with sensors.
I wasn't going to do TPMS but when I did it last week they were priced differently.

Not having it working on a new high $ pride and joy type car would make me crazy.
Maybe the warning can be coded, but I wouldn't want it coded out year round. Old cars never had it, but they had these handy spare tires in the trunk. Other thing is I don't want to find out a tire is going flat when I'm getting a bit froggy behind the wheel. Not to say that dumping 350 on it does not bite. 200 seems a lot closer to an ample but more fair profit for the sellers. Also not to say that it really should make me crazy, it just would though. |

Just realized what has happened (and why Tire Rack asks if your car was 3/14 production or later). The TPMS has changed in these vehicles. If you choose a car with a prod date of earlier than that you still get the $220 modules.
I verified with realoem as well that that there is a change with these TPMS sensors and it does not appear that the older ones are compatible with these newer vehicles. My guess of the price difference is that Tire Rack usually sells you aftermarket compatible ones but in this case these are still pretty new so they may just be handing you OEM ones, hence the OEM price. |

They had the price screwed up on their website for a while. I called to order and was quoted one price then looked online and saw the lower price. I called back and they adjusted it for me. I believe the new ones were priced same as old briefly.
