2015 228x vs M Sport vs Sport
Hi all, love the new 228x, I think even better than my 325xi. Can't decide which model to order. What are differences between the "lines" and the M Sport, sport, etc. Drove the car and loved the 228i. But 2 hours away from dealer and need some help. Appreciate all comments.

Regardless of whether you get the AWD x model, get the Sport or MSport to get better suspension, wheels/tires. seats. There is a big difference in driving the base model vs the MSport. Like driving a Camry vs a BMW.

Go to bmws USA website and build one to learn. I prefer Msport over sport line, but that's your call. Check out the track pack also.

I started thinking I wanted an MSport, but found I could get everything I wanted in the Sportline. The only significant difference turned out to be the less sporty designed steering wheel, but the Sportline wheel is great, red stitching, thick, well-shaped rim. MSport has different (not better or worse) front and rear fascias, but you lose your fog lamps. I couldn't get my color choice on MSport either, so I added options to the Sportline and built essentially the same car, and it does have the same Sport seats! Paid about $42k.

I think the car looks good either way, but in Norway you lose a lot of the resale value if you don't have m-sport fitted

It's pretty much cosmetic differences. You just need to decide what you like between the two, interior and exterior wise.

And they are really subtle....it's mostly the badge if you build the rest of the car correctly. The fascias are six of one/half a dozen of another...the steering wheel may be the most noticeable, but as I said, the Sportline one is also quite nice! I'm actually surprised there isn't more substance to the MSport line.

There are couple more minor differences that were not mentioned.
M-sports have perforated leather manual shift know and have small body painted rear deck spoiler. There is also a possibility of extra oil cooler on the M-sports and the reason for the absence of fog lights. |

Additionally, it will look unique in a sea of M-sports. M-sport is really popular. |

Sorry if I offended you, but I drove the base model and a M235i twice before buying the 228 MSport. Perhaps my Camry comment is a little exaggerated but there is a huge difference between the base model and the MSport in terms of driving dynamics. If the original poster is looking for a very sporty car, they need to know that they should get the Sport or MSport.

The M Sport body kit (front and rear bumpers) look much better and transform the look of the car over the standard and sport lines. I would spend the extra for the M sport.

I guess since I will never track my car any of those things would be of little value to me. I am more of a Luxury Line BMW guy than an MSport line. I prefer a more elegant looking ride than one with all the extra ground effects and race looking fluff. I appreciate nice sport cars, but if I am going to buy a sports car I will buy one that is a sports car out of the box....ie a Cayman!

Shocks are a different issue. They affect both ride and handling. They work with the springs to keep the wheels in place. The stiffer the shocks, the more resistance there will be to the wheels moving up and down, which will help keep the car from bobbing up and down and help the tires maintain better contact with the road surface. This makes the car more controllable at higher speeds. The flip side is that stiffer shocks will also make the ride more harsh.

Larger wheels tend to take wider lower profile tires, which have more traction and less side to side give. This causes handling to be firmed up and more direct. Shocks will have more damping and more closely control the spring movement and rebound, firming up the ride. If you like more of a luxury feel, stick with the base suspension and wheels.
