Rear wheel spacers: Yay or nay?
So I put wheel spacers on the car a couple days ago and I can't quite decide if I like them or not, I keep going back and forth on it. At times I think something just looks "off", like the wheels are sticking out slightly too much but other times I think it looks awesome, gives it a more aggressive stance. Just to be clear, we are comparing the rear only. The front has spacers on both sides too and I definitely like them there, just can't decide on the rear.
What do you guys think? Yay or nay? Last edited by HX_Guy; 07-12-2014 at 08:09 PM.. |

I would not use spacers on any sporty car, but that's just me. BMW dialed in the suspension geometry well on this car and I wouldn't want to alter it even a little.

Would you say the same about any aftermarket wheel then? Because most would have a different offset which would have the same effect as adding spacers, no?

HX_Guy, I'm having the same dilemma. I put the spacers on yesterday and the rear do seem to protrude out too much. I had 15mm on the rear of my e92 which was fine. 15 on this car....I don't know.
Another thread said the MINIMUM that would fit the rear was 15 to clear the hub. Has anyone confirmed that? I think 10 or 12 would be better. |

15mm is the minimum you can put on the rear, see my other thread. I axtuky measured with a digital caliper as well and the hub is right under 15mm, so 15mm is the minimum. I agree, I think 10mm would be ideal.
I'm still I sure what to do. It looks great from some angles but others I feel it ruins the lines if the car, makes it too boxy and short looking and almost like stiller skate if that makes sense. I actually took them off right now to see how I feel about it with spacers on just the front. I guess best thing would be to get some wheels that have a 42mm offset (stock is 52mm) but I actually like the stock wheels. |

I looked on H&R's website and they list a 5mm spacer that will work on the rear as well as a 13mm that will work, just the 10mm and 12mm don't work.
Ideally I think a 10mm would be best but since that's not available, I ordered the 5mm spacers from Amazon (Uber Technic, same as the ones I have now) and I'll see how it looks. It may be a good compromise. I also ordered the H&R 13mm to see how that compares to the 15mm. It's only 2mm difference but it may be enough to make it look just right. I dig them, I think it looks a lot better with the spacers. Though I am a fan of some flush fitment

It looks great with the spacers. Adds the right amount of muscle. What is a good brand to go with? I have a '14 M235 and my only gripe is how much wheel arch overhang there is. I like the way the 15mm look but maybe 13mm is safer.

Wow. So I guess I'm the only one that doesn't really notice a difference. All of your with and with out photos are different. Try to get the same angle for the with and with out photos.
