There must have been some update to the seat design between June and July 2014 production vehicles. The IIHS differentiates and gives 2 different ratings to head restraints and seat design, with vehicles produced before July 2014 getting slightly lower ratings than those produced after June 2014.

Yep, its a safe car, can argue with that. However, to be fare this is why it tips the scales at 3,500-3,600 lbs.
Can wait for the M2, however can not see BMW dropping more than 80 lbs in weight reduction.

Not a lot of cars getting a "Good" for the newer Small Overlap test yet, so the + is an important distinction and great news for 2 series buyers. |

I am still concerned about how engine shape / size / weight affects those results.
If small tweaks can make or break those tests, I think an engine size could have an even bigger impact. Does anybody honestly think that test-results of a 4-cylinder Mustang Ecobox would be equivalent to 8-cylinder iron-block 600hp monstrosity they will put in a Shelby ? Does anybody (preferably with an engineering background) has an answer ? |

As I said before, CR bashed Corvette for not having enough cup holders and stiff suspension BUT, this is something real. I am very impressed by this. I prefer smaller cars and this is frosting on the cake. You can have your smaller car and be resonably safe!
Well done BMW! |

Interesting what 14 years of testing and research does.
Look at the 2000 BMW 328 moderate overlap test for comparison. Compared to the 2014 BMW 2 series moderate overlap test the head protection is a nice upgrade in the new model. |
