Given how good the reviews have been for the M135i and how outstanding they have been for the M235i I cannot fathom why BMW is planning to move the entire setup to UKL, it seems totally illogical to throw out the performance powerhouses with the mainstream because a few 116i buyers don't know it's RWD.
I wonder if sales of the M235i might force a rethink on the whole Under Klasse FWD move. |

My apologies if my statement came off as belittling, the 135i is a fantastic car and I'd put a 1 series vert up against any vert out there. It just kills me when fellow BMW owners troll the forums of other series models to state why their vehicles are superior. I'd be just as critical of a 2 series owner running over to 1addicts to minimize a positive review of the 1 series. No need for Debbie Downers here. That being said it was never my intention to belittle anyone. My bad. |

I really need to test drive a 2. I've sat in a bunch at auto shows and I do think they're very nice, but I can't get past the price. My vert in 08 based at $39,100. Accounting for inflation that's $43,200 in today's money - about the base of an M235 coupe. I also optioned one up the other day and the price came out to just shy of $50k. I bought an i3 last month for $51k, and that has expensive batteries, electronics, and a carbon fiber monocoque. So that's really my issue, its the price. It may be a great car but I have a tough time justifying it over other options. |

I haven't read a CR review in ages but I have to commend them - they clearly spent some time with the car and did a good job of conveying their thoughts. Certainly more in depth and descriptive than some of the articles that the big US car magazines seems to produce these days.
Except for the some confusion on the non RFT they were pretty much spot on. |

Honestly the only time it's a hassle the very first time you try to set it up. After that first time, its pretty quick. And it allows for both "rest" and a automatic rest at a time of your choosing. Pretty niffy.

They didn't forget. Consumer Reports actually anonymously purchases each car they test from the dealers lot. They never test press cars. I think it's safe to assume they couldn't purchase a 1M.

As to the trunk space, well, just fold down your rear seats!

Not true. Most have driven the 2 and while overall the 2 series is a better car and probably better looking, there are some things that were better on the 1 series for some. It had better real sound and a really nice normally aspirated 128 model, it had a temp gauge and you could get it without iDrive or active suspension if you wished and it felt firmer too, it had a hydraulic steering rack and a place to stick your key in. Those are small differences that that some people appreciate. Secondly and most important, there is all this thing about 1 series owners "trolling" 2 series site. As if we should stay on our side of the fence. What these people don't get is that the 2 series IS THE old 1 series! Many of us are looking at the 2 series as a replacement to the 1 so that trolling stuff is bunk. I will rinse and repeat....the 2 series is the 1 series with a new badge and it is the same group of people looking at it. |

Not braggin' but... I drove away from my ED with 4 carry-ons, two shoulder bags, a leather jacket and the complimentary bouquet in the trunk. The spouses of pilot and navigator occupied the rear seats.

I too find CR weak on evaluating sporty cars, plus I still hold a grudge over the Suziki Samurai fiasco (for those too young to remember, they claimed it was unsafe due to tipping issues, it turned out they after the standard course was modified to induce the tipover behavior which did not occur while experienced drivers utilized the standard course." This killed the Samurai sales. I bought one in 1985 and it was great little mini-jeep with outstanding off road capabilities for its size and power.
That said, they do handle repair issues and reliability quite well.
