Why do we sometimes give BS answers
I am just wondering why we get BS answers sometimes on this forum.
My example is M Performance carbon fiber mirror caps. Everyone told me you just pull off the old caps and click in the new ones. Well the answer is half right. The old caps pull off but the new caps are held on by three screws. It requires a complete disassembly including taking the mirrors out. Not any where near the plug and play answers people on the forum have given. I gave up and went to the dealer to install the M Performance mirror caps. I am wondering if anyone else has really installed the real BMW M Performance carbon mirror caps. They do look great once installed and fit and finish are excellent. |

You must have missed the DIY Masterlist
you cant always rely on what 1 person tells you and need to do your research regardless. |

The real question is why do some people on this board give b.s. answers. Mine was only an example of some of the b.s.

I hear you on your complaint. I ordered the auto shift cover after reading a detailed post that it just un-snaps like the other interior trim. When the part arrived it had a small screw in the box. The post said to just pull the original cover off, no mention about removing the shift pattern plastic cover and removing the size 8 Torx screw. Had they mentioned that up front I would of had the right tools and knowledge.
My Subaru forums had better car guys who did most of the work themselves and gave great instructions. Looks like the stereo typical BMW owner is alive and well on this forum. Last edited by Delnari; 06-21-2014 at 07:06 PM.. |

not really quite clear on how that didn't set your expectations back when you asked about it. I get that it was pics from a 3 series but once you got the screws delivered, that didn't raise any flags pointing to the install being what was linked? either way, glad you got it sorted out, sorry you had to go to a dealer to do it for you. |

I wasn't allowed to use Wikipedia as a source in my research papers. The internet is not always a reliable source. Some people have good intentions but don't know what they're talking about. I've been there. It happens...

FFS is this really so hard to understand?? Nearly everyone (including me) buys the far cheaper Chinese knockoffs from eBay, and as mentioned, these do not require screws. No one was trying to mislead you. Relax.

Start at the bottom of the mirror cap with the corner furthest from the car. Pull hard and it will start to separate. The stock caps are just held in by clips.

I'm with Dan. It's pure bravado, trying to intimate these DIY's are easier than they appear. Bravado is also rampant on the deals thread and half of it is not real. Some do have good intent and others intentionally mislead
