M235i Wheels - Car Wash/Rain Collection
It appears from car wash water and rain, there inadvertently is a well within the M235i wheel that is collecting dirty water... and when it dries up the sediment remains... Anyone else observe this? Is this normal? Is there a purpose?

We had this discussion over in the Wheels and Tire section. It's a poor design to have that groove without the ability for it to drain off the wheel. Wash the wheel and the water sits or get in rain and you get a collection of dirt or brake dust building up.

I can't imagine how dirty they would get if they were silver, probably pretty. Bad. I couldn't keep my E93 335 silver wheels clean for more than a couple days. I actually think the dark gray hides the dust and dirt.

Also water collects in the bottom of the door sill when going through a car wash. I have to wipe it down every time. Water getting on the M235i decorative metal in the door isn't the coolest design.

Yes.. please post a picture I've been curious about this ever since I read about it in the wheels section. So on top of center caps falling off we also have issues with the wheels storing water.

Can any engineers in the group comment on the merits of having a concave recess? Maybe it was done for added strength? I can see no other benefit. Having the shadow line there is nice but that could have been accomplished without the well effect.

That happened as we'll.... And the issue is you have to get out of the car to wipe down and it SOAKS your pants,,, on the way out. what a poor design. Kind of disappointing. Never seen that with any car. Not even a pinto.

Serves both of you right for putting that thing through a car wash in the first place. Shame, shame, shame.

Actually, I don't let the car wash people touch the inside - I do that myself. The automatic wash I use is new, modern, and with it's advanced technology it does not leave swirl marks and it completely dries.... Except.... Now there is a door sill issue with leakage so the whole car is dry yet the door sill is soaked with sudsy water. Seriously no swirl marks..

Also, for the "the car wash is your problem" comments, it's just spraying my car like I would expect to spray it with a water hose. Are we the only ones seeing this? Cause I see it after it rains, as well. |
