Clutch weight
I drive a 335is and always thought the clutch was a bit light. After driving the 235i 10 days in Europe, I jumped in the 335is at the airport and realized the clutch in the 235i is even lighter!!!
I never made any mods on my previous cars and am not mechanically inclined, so this might be a stupid question: is there an easy and cheap way to get more weight on the clutch? |

I'm not sure what your referring to. Are you describing clutch pedal pressure, or are you referring to flywheel weight and how the revs drop when you let of the gas ?
You can increase clutch pedal pressure with a new clutch if aftermarket offers a heavier duty / racing clutch. Hydraulic's or linkage change is not really available or desirable. |

Meant clutch pedal pressure. I want more resistance when I push with my foot. So you are saying that there aftermarket "systems" I can buy. Any recommendations?

I'm guessing an aftermarket clutch could be firmer at the pedal - but I have no experience.
I would only go through the trouble / expense of a new clutch when the present wears out - if this is simply a road car driven on the street. |

It's going to be tough to change this much as the clutch is hydraulically assisted. So while a sport clutch may change this a bit, it's not going to make a huge difference.
Try a 911 clutch - that's really "heavy" |

Why on earth would you want more effort? Especially in traffic? If you're looking for a workout, maybe you should join a gym or get a road bicycle !! The light effort is a huge bonus and selling point for most people including everyone I know who drives manual. Try being stuck in traffic with a heavy clutch for hours.. Yikes

Yeah after having a couple vehicles with racing clutches I'm enjoying the lightness of this clutch. Especially in traffic, I had a 5.0 mustang that had a racing clutch that made my leg shake when crawling along, not much fun.

yeah, but this one seems to have 3 modes as oppose to a single super heavy mode. My brother-in-law has an 11 year-old Boxster and the weight of the clutch is great

What???? I'm talking about the amount of effort required to activate the clutch. Throttle response is something entirely different and in that case as it is not an S i leave him cold.

Your comment about three modes for the clutch makes zero sense. So I assumed you meant the hold time was different between sport, comport, and eco which is more to do with the delayed throttle response of the latter two.

If you look at the link, the UPC has 3 settings (stock -sport -race). This is what i was referring too. I for one like a little heft in my clutch, traffic or not. The M235i's is just too light for my taste.

Look, I'm no mechanic. But UPC seems to stand for Ultimate Clutch Pedal. And the bla bla (and some reviews in the 3-series forum on Bimmerpost) seems to imply that it helps with clutch feel and heft. I want the clutch to have more resistance. I haven't found or heard or any other option. No problem with the throttle.

to be fair I always thought the clutch on my current car was too light as well, just not bad enough to try to do something about it. Personnel preference.

coming from my evo (which has a firm but by no means race heavy clutch), I can relate to what you're saying. the light pedal in the 235 is strange and feels less...sporty? I do think you'll adjust to it, though, and it's probably not worth risking mods that your SA might use to deny warranty claims on the transmission...

Just picked up the car a couple of days ago and yes, it's very light. What I can't stand is there so much travel. I will have to find a stop to shorten it a bit.
