How to stop axxholes scratching my car from rear when waiting traffic light
I am sorry I had to ask a question like this, but it was really pain in my ass.
I live in NY/NJ city area, reputedly for retards and assholes. Yesterday when I stopped my 235 by a red light, a mustang approached to me from rear and it was super close to my car. I was not feeling comfortable, turned my head back and stared at him. He shaken his shoulders and moved even closer. As I didn't feel get hit from rear, I just moved forward after traffic light turned to green. After I got home, rear bumper got a little scratch on it. I was regret that I didn't get out of the car and calling a cop. What you guys would do when someone saw a rare car and trying to irritate you? I dont wanna just buy a bumper amor/cushion stuff to avoid things like this. |

And up goes you insurance too. NJ's no fault policy means everyone pays.
Why do so many drivers have to be like this? Got me mad just reading your post. I'm with you man.

Having lived in NYC getting scratches and dings is part of owning a car. I don't condone his actions but it's extremely difficult to keep your car pristine in that environment.

My daughter lives in NJ and I have to agree with you. No matter how hard they try, they can't keep their cars pristine.

So let me get this right. In NY/NJ if you pull up at lights, someone pulls behind you so close, they touch your car? Why don't you get out a chin them?

But I have used that extra space to inch up if someone does stop very close. And if they keep inching up on me i have put my car in reverse to show my back up lights and 90% of the time the person has stopped inching on my car. Definitely frustrating that others don't care about there car which means they don't care about any others. It doesn't have to be some exotic car, its just taking pride in the things you own and do.

I have thought about getting a dash and rear camera for these situations. because the scratch is so small i could just see the person saying he didn't bump you and the cop believing it or thinking whats the bid deal "its only a small scratch". With the camera you have proof and its the only way sometimes. Or at least makes it easier. Its very unfortunate it has come to these things but might as well use technology to your benefit.

In parking spots, expect your car messed up. But while driving, that shouldn't happen. |

I was stuck in slow moving traffic once -- it was only a few days after I got my M235i. In my rearview mirror, I could see this guy busy texting (or perhaps playing a game on his phone). At least on a few occasions, I could clearly see him get startled that he got too close to my car and them brake in haste. He just got too close once. I stopped my car, put it on parking lights, went out to his car and politely told him that I has been looking at him constantly using his phone while driving (illegal in Washington) and get too close to rear ending my car on at least a few occasions. I asked him to put his phone away. He did.

Add a clear bra to your front and rear bumper. Saw one on this forum that you just wash with warm water and scratches disappear.
Certainly do NOT drive 5 miles an hour in front of him. This adds to road rage with unpredictable consequences. Not worth it. It's a piece of metal that can always be repaired and your life is worth much more and cannot always be repaired. Don't lose perspective.

I wouldn't start a fight with the guy. Get out of your car and take photos with your mobile phone. Then report the incident to the cops.
