Simple, drivetrain losses. Any full-time AWD vehicle will see comparatively less MPG than a similar RWD or FWD vehicle. Its science.

Agreed AWD is going to be lower, but my new car choice would have just been a lot harder of a decision for me if they could get mpg's as high as the CLA45 or the new Golf-R scheduled for next year.

I haven't had a BMW for many years (Euro 1979 635CSi) and have lately been driving Evo IX with E85 tune and bigger injectors (very reliable 425hp and 435 tq from 2.0L). Is this something that works well with the turbo Bimmers or it it recommended to stay with gas?

Subies get horrible MPGs...
owned my '12 Impreza for little over 2 yrs, rated at 36mpg hwy and only gotten 27-29mpg. 80-90% highway @ 70-75mph avg. horrible to say the least, Subie forum members have reported same results.

For those reporting MPG use this calculation to get your exact MPG
Calculating Your Car's Miles Per Gallon (MPG) 1. Fill up your car's gas tank all the way. 2. If your car has a trip odometer, reset it, or record the master odometer mileage. 3. Drive your car as you normally would, and let your gas tank deplete to at least a half of a tank of gas. 4. Get to the gas station and fill your tank again. 5. Record the amount of gas it took to refill the tank. 6. Record the elapsed trip miles or new odometer mileage. calculation EX: 312miles ÷ 13gallons = 24mpg

I'm gunna be that Canadian troll who says that on my first half tank I have been getting 9.6 L/100 city. While diving like I just bought a new bmw. Not to bad really. Better than the 2.0T in my old VW.

And I don't drive like granny at all. My commute is in traffic that's going between 75mph to 85mph. That AT makes a good bit of difference in MPG. Two over drive gears is no joke for increasing fuel mileage. And the F30 is heavier than the 2 series. How much, I haven't looked it up yet. I'm surprised by this 20-22 mpg. Are these MT's? My 135i MT was a bit better than that, around 23mpg consistently. |

That's still well below 30mpg. Also, are you using the computer on the car or doing the real calc? Quote:
20-22 sounds right for someone driving the car hard, even low if they are having a whale of a time |

Has anyone tested the accuracy of the fuel economy that the car's computer reports and the actual fuel economy? In my experience, most cars report about 1L/100km better than reality. However my last car (2014 IS350) was almost dead-on, with only 0.1-0.2 errancy. I'll be testing this when I go for my first fill-up.
