My 95 M3 with the s50 had 240hp, I've since done intake, HFM, fuel injectors and chip to bring it to 275hp. I'd have to add camshafts, a different tune, and catless exhaust to even get it close to 320hp...
I blame BMWNA.

Put it this way though, you're still making 75hp more than the heavier BRZ/FRS which is a modern vehicle, not developed in the late 80s.

The 1M is the baddest and you haters that didn't get one should get over it. E30 M3's are fun but not compared to current options. A great car but a "Classic" and it's easy to get more better. 135i and E36 M3's are great options and nice price points. The M235 is a very strong "BMW" and may be one of their best products in years! It's not a Classic built for a specific reason(e30 m3) and it's not a limited edition future collector(1m) and it's not as cheap to run/use as a E36/E46/E82, but is, NO DOuBT a bad ass BMW in every sense of the term.

But we live with certain realities regarding fuel consumption. I would love a solid lifter cam NA 3.2 in a new bmw, but it's not possible today. The good news is that new cars are very good at a lot of things, and very quick, just in different power delivery. Even better news is that we can buy older cars with great NA motors for a lot less money

Good review. Appreciate the "regular guy" point of view that inspire the reviewer's opinions. Since 95% of the time that's the kind of driving I do, it's the stuff I want to know.
All the best.

Test drove one the other day. It is definitely not an M, nor near a pristine e36 M3, nor close to my (heavily modified ) former 135. I would have to modify it once parts become available, thus increasing the price by $10-15k from list @$47K. The fake exhaust/engine sound is humorous at best, but that's where we are all headed. I would recommend buying a 1M or wait for an M2, or buy a low mileage 135 w/ an N54 engine and mod the crap out of it. That being said, it is still a nice car but not one I want in a bad way.

It's a great car and comparing it to older models doesn't make a lot of sense. I have seen tests where a 135i without PPK did better lap times than an E46 M3. Enthusiasts make a bit deal about NA motors and manual transmissions, but this new stuff delivers the goods, and in a hurry to.

Actually they are all still running E9x chassis this year. Bimmerworld has one F30 328i in Continental ST class. But they are developing that car, it is not up to speed. They are still campaigning three other E90 328's in the ST class to go after the championship. We will see if Bimmerworld will switch over to the F30 permanently next year. In GS class, I bet Turner, Fall Line, etc. will still run the E92 M3 next season (maybe another two seasons).

Yes. I'd happily drive it daily, and not worry about it being a collector and racking up the miles, but special enough to separate from the more commons models roaming around.
