Really want the 235i but the main concern its the 2 doors and a childseat. Anyone have experience with a 2 door + childseat in the back???
Might get a cheap used toyota for DD and 235 the weekend ride

Yes in my 128 its a bit tight if my wife is also in car otherwise not really an issue and my almost 3 year old always asks to take the bm-aw. 2er maybe a skosh better but behind passenger seat is the place to go and if you happen to have a front passenger they probably won't be very happy if much over 5'. Getting him back there not too big an issue really unless you were to make a bunch of stops it could be a pita I suppose. Center mount not really an option in the 1, not sure about the 2 but doubt it. Ah there is an additional annoyance I recently discovered. If you need to flip a seat you're screwed (too wide) unless car seat rides behind driver which I wouldn't suggest. Totally do-able with one, not so much with 2

My wife's 5'3" and once you got the kid seat in the back of our 135i, it was fine. Getting it in and out was a bear, but not much worse than any coupe. The 2er should be very similar. I'm 6'2" and there's no way a rear facing seat would work behind me a car this size.

Just an FYI from another post!
Made it work with one kid but gave up the E46 ZCP (2door) when child #2 arrived and after a little stop over with an X5 we are now in the E90 M3 with performance and room to spare BMW E90 M3 - THE ULTIMATE Family DRIVING MACHINE We also use Recaro kids seats and here are a few tips that may help when you only have one child: - In E92, position the rear facing kid's seat behind the passenger as the driver needs to be in the proper position for safety reasons. In the E90 use the middle position for extra room between the front seats and greater side impact protection for baby! - set memory #2 on the driver's seat for all the way forward so when it is time to ingress / egress, press the M#2 button while standing outside and allow the seat to move all the way forward and you / or the wife can get right in the back to do the belts etc - make a family decision to drive vehicle #2 whenever possible! Good tips...i have an e90 and my son just started sitting forward. I have the childseat behind the passenger...no problem of course since its a 4 door.
We also have the recaro seat (in my wifes car) and they are bulky so maybe that would be great for a 2door coupe so you dont have to lean all the way in to buckle the lil one

I have had a rear facing carseat in my 1 series for 16months now. Started with an infant carrier and now have a massive rear facing seat.
I keep it behind the passenger and access it from drivers side |

Yeah rear facing was a little tougher, by no means impossible- how quickly I forget. I did (when he was rear facing) as I sometimes still do now which is climb over via drivers' side this way I don't crunch his feet when passenger seat locks back in (manual seats). Cool that the 2 will be 40/20/40 though- that helps.

Not really, provided the driver is either not that tall or willing to move the seat up. We looked at the E92, E93, E82 and E88 and the E82 back seat was wider (and less upright) than the E93 and really not much different than the E92. The main difference between the E92 and E82 was that getting in and out of the E82 was more difficult, but once in, space wasn't that different.

Curious, how the 40/20/40 split would help? So, you can pass the baby from the rear trunk? |

I am currently in an f20 5 door and it was quite crammed in the back. Was contemplating the 4 series but for practicality I'm going to be grown up and order a 3 series.
We have to make some sacrifices Had a 3 door golf and it was a pain in the tits letting the kids in and out. |

That and if you need to flip a seat with one car seat installed, you'll be able to. Right now I've got a forward facing convertible seat on the passenger side rear of my E82 (pretty much the only place it could reasonably go) but the 60% split is on the driver's side, so guess what I'm SOL if I want to flip the driver's side because it won't clear the width of the car seat and mine isn't huge at all- can't imagine why they wouldn't have it reversed but its nice they addressed this shortcoming.
