Standard? I thought the first one belongs to the M235i and the other is for the 235i with M-Sport package.

Right. If they do decide to make a M435i, you can expect it to have more power than the M235i and be in between the 435i and the M4

I think somewhere in 'Merica. Just look at the huge rubbermaid trash can(in the garage photo) and the huge SUV's and Corporate type building in the background. That ain't euro-land.

The new 2er is shaping up to THE bmw a lot of us are waiting for.
+1

Just pray they don't cripple it with the UKL platform when they come to update it

I saw the M235i today without camo. It looks so good! Can't wait to drive it! They showed it to us at the X5 launch.

What color? Was it the red one we have seen in all the spy pics?

LSD should be a factory option, not port or dealer installed. Limited Slip Diffs are key to the dynamics of rear drive sport sedans regardless of whether they wear an M badge. In the E30 era even the 318is had an LSD and it made a significant difference. They have been sorely missed since they were last seen in the non-M E36. BMW should not make people buy and M3, M5, M6 or pay labor to install an M accessory to experience a proper rear end.

It differentiates it from the 4. I kind of like how it's not just going to be a mini 4 series, it looks a lot more like the E46 with the higher roofline and that car still looks good today.

you can't tell me someone just decided to take pictures of the rear and the wheels/tires without getting interior shots or the front

edit: anyone else think its interesting the exhaust pipes is on the right side of the car?

Yes, it's really beeing a succesor to the earlier M3's in terms of size and tossabillity.
So i guess the 2 series is the coheritage from the small 3 series back in the day, i'm not sure where that leaves the 3/4 series, it's the size of a E39 5 series now, strange!
But good to see BMW doesn't mess up this segment, no matter what the badge says on the back imo.

You must be a current 1 series owner.

yep you are

all joking aside, no one knows exactly how the rear of the 2 series looks like.
don't get me wrong, i love the current 1 series that you have but this 2 is shaping up to be a nice pure BMW. and you should note that it should be a few lbs lighter than the 1.

Oh I'm not saying I'm not bias by any means. My point is that it's so similar to the 1 series I don't see any reason to sell my 1 and buy a 2. I like the look of the 1 better and I feel that it is much more "pure" because it has hydraulic power steering rather than electric along with the more desirable n54 from a tuning perspective.

Better proportions and 200lbs lighter but I agree, the 1 is not very behind.

I think the whole electric vs hydraulic is so overblown. I have both and I actually don't think electric is all that bad, it has the benefits of less parasitic loss and I can parallel park the car far quicker lol.

For the weight reduction we got our spec from South African BMW website and if you go on this website the F22 weight exactly the same as the E82 135i so I will wait official specifications before starting any comparaison.

I am interested to hear more about the difference between the two. One of my favorite attributes of all the BMWs I have had has been the "heavy" feel to the steering. It matters if you turn the wheel an inch in either direction, because the car actually goes somewhere.

Do you feel as though that is somewhat lost with the electric set up?

Sure hydraulic feels better during "performance" driving but ironically I have electric on my track car and I got used to it fast. At first it felt vague because it'd be so effortless to turn the wheel but once I got used to it, the car felt very nimble. And on track I drive with DSC off and electric steering allows for quicker corrections on track.

And like I said, when it comes to daily driving, I can parallel park very easily with power steering. One hand on the wheel while looking back and the wheel spins with ease. With hydraulic, I really have to crank the wheel when the car is backing up slowly.
