M235i vs Mini JCW coupe
Gents,
I've presently have a 2011 M3 and a mini JCW coupe(250hp). The mini has shown me the shear fun of a lighter weight sports car. I plan on being buried in the S65 M3 but i'm interested in the M235 as a possible replacement for the mini. Will the M235 still have the light weight go cart like handling of the mini. I wish the mini was rear wheel drive. Secondly the M235 will be released in the U.S. in November? Thanks for your thoughts. |

Having driven an E90 M3, a few Mini Cooper S's and owned a 135i, the short answer is no.
I'd guess the M235i will be around 3,300 pounds, while an E92 M3 is around 3,600 and a Mini Cooper S is right around 2,700. A Cayman or a BRZ would be much closer to your weight goal and would both convey a sense of lightness much better than any BMW. My old M Coupe was right at 3,000 pounds, and it still felt a good bit heavier than the Minis I've driven. |

If money is no concern, consider Lotus Elise/Exige or the new Alfa Romeo 4C. If you want to spend less and don't care too much for lack of big power then go for one of the Toyobaru twins.
IMO, no M car will be comparable to a Mini in terms of weight, unless they decide to make a Z2 one day with an M version, even that will be heavier.
