I think we should be able to look past BMW and 4-Cylinder engines. I don't think there's a strong enough argument to say the straight-six is heads and shoulders above the 4-cylinder as proven by the F30 328 and M135 being able to achieve similar performance to a 1M.

The biggest issue with a 4 pot will always be more turbo lag.. BMW has a power target for the M2, lets assume it's 360 HP.. Yes they can get there with either power plant choice but given equal technology, the 4 pot will always require more boost and possibly bigger turbos which will always translate into more turbo lag .. Again stressing equal technology and development.

its another page taken from the audi book there is the A4, then S4 then RS4 so 128 then the M135i then the 1M it basically means the premium from 128 to M135 will get larger More Money from the M logo

I meant as far as displacement goes, I doubt most people would be able to see past an I4 vs. I6 and pick the I4 for performance purposes. I wonder if they'll consider a flat four... hmmm

I'd take 100:1 odds on a $5k bet that it won't be a flat four.

I have to wonder it anyone spouting about how great a turbo I4 could be in the M2 has ever driven a 300+ HP I4? They're nothing like the N54/N55.
You can't simply slap on additional turbos to solve the problem. A turbocharger is powered by exhaust energy. A four cylinder only produces so much exhaust energy. Turbochargers also work best with smooth, continuous flows of air. Any less than three cylinders doesn't work very well.

edit: jks I thought u were asking M235i price. The M2 will probably be higher around 49k since they will have more time to develop the car (and inflation)

Those cars sounded better than the m3/4 clips that we have been hearing. So maybe there is a lot we don't know!

It seems BMW will not make M2 coupe but rather make it M2 Gran Coupe with 4 doors which would make sense since RS3 and the AMG competitors all have 4 doors.

The answer to all of those questions comes down to number of cylinders and firing order. It is impossible to make an I4 sound like an I6, regardless of displacement and exhaust system. I've never cared for the sound of an I4, regardless of tune. I can appreciate and respect an I4 that is well tuned, and there are plenty of great examples that deserve the praise they get, but I don't want to own one.

My 135i wont set off in ANY ice/snow with the slightest of uphill gradients, the video doesnt seem to show these new cars doing this. Perhaps they edited this bit out or are they Xdrive models or something??!

I hate to throw this out there, but how do we really even know if an ///M2 is coming stateside (or coming at all for that matter)? I know the information we have claims it is coming, but I don't really see it fitting into the marketing/business scheme. Let's say you're looking at a 435i and the M2 is the same price... that's a business dilemma for BMW. I mean, they're not making an ///M version of the F20, so why would they make one of the F22? And certainly, why would they develop an all new 4 cylinder engine for such a limited application? I'm just sayin'....
i mean audi keeps a lot of RS models away from us...
