220i and M235i now in dealers in Mexico
This is one of those times when it is good to live in Mexico. Last week my dealer told me the first 2 series were on it's way to Mexico, we are located at the Port of Veracruz, where all BMWs for the Mexican market arrive.
Well, today I drove past the dealership and saw a Melbourne red 220¡ and a Estoril Blue M235i parked outside so I did the obvious and stopped to take some pictures. It is funny how BMW treats the Mexican market as if it were one of their biggest markets, for example, we get the M135i, we can buy and install Performance Seats at the dealership, we have very good prices compared to some european countries (M235i costs $49,600 USD), I bought my pretty loaded brand new 1M at this dealership in december 2012 for $65,000 USD and now we can get the 2 series before most of the world. Here are some pictures of the cars. I will go back this afternoon to take some more pictures of the interior. |

Damn! That's awesome--these have to be some of the first, if not the first, of real production cars out in the wild. Awesome catch!
Are these demo cars??? I wonder if you will get to drive one... Your perspective would be great, considering you have a 1M--hopefully they let you take the M235 for a spin!

They probably install the bumper covers as part of the pre-delivery inspection(PDI).

Went back this afternoon to learn more about availability and pricing. BMW started delivering these today so the other dealers in Mexico should be getting theirs during the weekend.
This dealer only got these two cars. They are not demo or press cars, they are for sale and you could take them home tomorrow if you want. Actually the red 220i sold as I was there. A lot of people came by the dealership today to see them and I got to say it completely fulfilled my expectations. Even though they didn't let me drive them, I was able to sit inside it. You have all seen the interior, it is pretty much the same as 3 series, you dont feel like you are in a "real" M car, just an M sport version of it. The exterior is a different story, it feels much bigger than the E82, but not as long as a 4 series, size is PERFECT. I loved the blacked out exhaust tips, specially on the M235i, I didn't like the silver mirrors. I can see BMW Mexico selling a lot of these cars and a very few 428i or 435i. I am sorry for the photos, the blue one was inside getting ready to be detailed so I could not have a wide shot. If I didn't have the 1M already, I would have jumped on the M235 right away. Here are some more pictures, you can see the red 220i alongside my dirty 1M, it looks so much wider IMO. |

What do you think of the interior quality/materials. Is it on par with the F30 335i? What about the hard materials in comparison with the F30 hard materials. Your photos look softer than the Detroit show photos ( perhaps too much glare and armor all ).

Thanks for the photos. Amazing that it's already available there. Really wish we could see the M235i directly next to the 1M. The 220i looks pretty large, yet not quite "stout" next to the 1M (wish it didn't!), but I've also always thought the 220i bumpers have that enlarging, bubbling effect on the overall appearance of the car. Here's to hoping the M235i is a little more stout-looking in person.
