I bought a 2009 335i hard top vert a few months ago it's my daily driver the roof is very cool but it just looks like it has so many moving parts its just bound to break.... It is under factory warranty until May 2013 is it wourt gething an extended one once the time draws near?

its a good idea to get an extended warranty after your factory warranty runs out for sure.
my service advisor said if something were to go wrong with the top it will be a costly repair.....but ppl in cali and florida drop the top everyday and have no issues..... i love my vert for sure, i still never get bored of seeing the roof go down and up....its epic

Is there an extended warranty that covers the folding roof 100%? From what I've seen out there, not every part is covered with the extended warranties out there.
I still have 3 years to go with mine on the factory warranty but inquiring minds want to know....

I've got an '07 with 45K miles. I have a Fidelity Platinum (exclusionary) warranty that I purchased from the dealer with the car. I would have passed, but the roof was my main concern. I was assured by the dealer several times that the mechanical components of the top were covered. The actual roof panels (hard and soft depending on your car) are not covered.
That being said, I've had extended warranties in the past on an Audi and a Volvo and it's always a fight. My CPO warranty on my last 3 was the easiest.. Never had an issue when brining it in for service. At any rate, I did wind up going with the Fidelity because it was an exclusionary warranty (they list what isnt covered vs what they do cover), and because I was worried about something happening with the guts of the top. |
