Effect of M2 on M235i market?
Do you expect to see a flood of used M235i's hit the market once the M2s hit dealerships? Secondly, do you think this will lower prices for used M235i's?
Thanks |

I'm already seeing a few of M235i owners looking to sell or trading in to get a M2. All depends on the negotiations still. I saw two posts alone today offering their M235i's because of M2 orders arriving. If it continues its possible it could help save a little on both used and new. I just bought a new 16 M235ix and dont really have any interest in a M2 because I prefer awd in my snow state. We'll see what the future brings.

If the M2 were available when I got the M235i for similar pricing (albeit comparable premium), I would've gotten the M2....despite the horrible origami front-end.

Unless you track your car, I don't think the M2 is an improvement for daily driving. Most reviews I have read prefer an M235i as a daily driver.

I'm FBO with 325whp/345wtq on Mustang dyno on Map 2 and 93. When I run 100 octane in Map 7 the car has no traction at full throttle below 40-50mph. I'm running 265mm PSS.
I'd say you'd need an LSD if you want to track an FBO car and fully utilize the power. |

The last thing you need is more power (although it is fun). I was up around 140 on the front straight at Willow Springs with a stock motor. Any faster and you should be in a caged race car - that shit is frightening.

LSD is expensive, but it's a very complicated mechanical device. There is a reason why auto companies are going away from making them standard equipment on all cars.

I am on the market for a new or used M235i for a while. I had gotten consistently quotes for new at like 5% below msrp assuming no trade-in and just last week, some dealers I have been talking with knocked an additional 1k for just one weekend and went back on to 5% off.
So other than that small blip down, I didn't see a whole lot of changes in the new market. I have also seen a few ppl trying to sell their M235is to potentially get an M2 or M3 |

Sure, the OEM is foolishly expensive. There are alternative's, though. Wavetrac's LSD is $600 for a RWD M235i ($1800 for the M235xi), plus install.

You're paying for the "pumpkin" that goes inside the OEM housing, which therefore requires disassembly. It's less expensive for the RWD because that uses a bolted ring gear that can be easily unbolted from the factory unit and swapped over. The xDrive uses a welded ring gear that needs an adapter (add $700) plus machining and welding at the vendor (add another $500) before you get it back and then suffer the install cost. CalWaterBoy over in the 3-forum at the other site has had a Wavetrac LSD in his E93 335i for a few years and swears by it. So, for the straight-up RWD: http://wavetrac.net/application.htm Part #30.309.392WK

The logical up-check from owning an M235i would be to go to an F80 or F81. After all, why not? Both models offer all the amenities of a performance oriented BMW straight out of the box.
Now for a first time acquisition into the 2er segment, then the M2 makes better sense unless the first time buyer is looking at AWD or ragtop.

George,It may be that their initial assumptions (that the RWD used the bolted and not the welded rear axle) have changed since February, and it's now doing the same pricing structure for both RWD and xDrive.
