JB4 Map 1 vs Map 5
Hello,
Is there any particular reason why a majority of JB4 users prefer running map 1 instead of map 5? I thought map 5 learns based on temperatures, IAT, mods, etc. Am I missing something? |

Hmm forgive me if I sound ignorant, but wouldn't it be better to let the tune learn the car over a period of time to produce the best gains? Map 1 is a fixed tune but as well all know, every car is a little different.

what i heard is that it's not that it "learns" over a period of time but it changes constantly... and apparently it changes so much that at one moment you have X horsepower and 3 mins later you have X-50
So i think that's what people complain about it... rather have a constant known power than the power going up and down |

Map 1 needs no extra mods.
Map 5 can be used on a stock car but not sure you'd see much benefit over map 1. However, if you add bolt ons to allow JB4 to target higher boost ie DP, map 5 comes into its own.........you wont run map 1 again !!

What he said^
I usually only run map 5 if I have e85 in the tank so it can adjust for octane and raise boost. DP I still prefer map 2 for more consistency. At the end of the day you just need to experiment with the maps that support your mods and determine which you like better. It all comes down to personal preferance. |

map 1 is same boost targets no matter which mods you have
map 5 auto tunes and changes boost target depending on your mods, fuel and IAT. You need to test drive both and decide which one you like better. I like map 5 because it has smoother power delivery but then again i am FBO with e50

M8 -if you think map 1 is good, wait until you try maps 2, 5, 6 or 7 with suitable BO's and fuel grade. Its LoL fast !!!

So, I've got an xdrive m235i m performance exhaust and jb4 stage 2 on map 5...would you guys recommend map 1 for the time being and then going to map 5 when I install my downpipe? Can someone spell out the maps and uses by the extent of modifications you have? Have yet to go to map 1 since I started on map 5 as that was recommended by the motorsports garage I go to. Anyone seen better delivery from map 1 on a completely stock car compared to map 5 that can attest to it?

I personally like map 5 a lot better than map 1. I have intake, jb4, and downpipe.
I feel like the power is a lot smoother than map 1 or 2, but again it's my opinion. Like what others have stated - you just have to find what you prefer. |

Agree with your observation that map 5 [autotuning feature] does feel smoother than the maps with fixed parameters.

That being said the JB is adjustable, you can increase it to 4 if you would like more power.

E85 Use Models equipped with the pneumatic wastegate & flex fuel connector may experiment with up to 40% E85 mixtures. Some cars tolerate E85 and some do not. Cars that do not tolerate the mix will "buck" or "miss" at full throttle. In some cases map 7 can be used on the E85 mix and in other cases map 2 is the highest that can be used. It's best to start slowly and work your way up in terms of aggressiveness when experimenting with E85 mixtures. |
