Carbon Fiber Shifter
Why do I feel like I'm the only one who got the carbon fiber M Sport shifter as a factory option? Just curious as I find it to be pretty rare and I like it a lot.

I met up with the MPerformance parts manager at the NAIAS at Detroit last week. We talked about the limitation of CF finishes on their shift knobs, both automatic and manual (which is the one I'm chasing). He acknowledged that there could be a business case on their part for a different finish for those who have aluminum and don't want to re-do the entire interior to make it match. For example, compare the CF manual MP knob to this one which only fits the 1 Series....same pattern, likely same tool to stamp out the applique....just need a different material such as aluminum and leather!

So, what would be the best way to integrate the CF shifter into the interior? I'm thinking get the CF shifter and parking brake and maybe go brushed aluminum for the other interior bits? |

Getting matching CF brake handle helps blending CF and aluminum look. As a bonus surprise I really like the feel of the CF brake handle. It is really soft and smooth to the touch due the Alcantara material instead of the rather hard leather on the stock one. Here are a couple of pictures with the hexagon aluminum trim. |

OP, can you post more pics? This is something I am considering for my car when I order and would love to see how it looks with the fineline trim.

Nice OP....Enjoy it!
I do not like (at all) the hex aluminum trim in my car. Would not have ordered it that way - this was an in stock car when I bought it. I've always loved CF and had it in both my M3's. Am shopping around for the 5 piece M Performance CF/Alcantra trim kit... Was also looking at the shifter, but the price value of the shifter is really poor relative to the 5 piece kit.

I think the MT looks better than the ZF with the carbon fiber - it's just so short and sporty looking.

I like the dry carbon finish very much but not sure I like it with the hex aluminum. The full interior kit is a lot of money for trim pieces.
