Well then you really have not put it to the test as I have for 7000 miles. I love the noises that come from it I want them still, but Trust me it has issues. The clamps kept coming loose and air would slip through and cause all sorts of issues that's why I kept tightening it.

Good info on this thread.. Glad I came across it..
I was just about to jump on an intake.. It seems those with AFE intakes don't have this problem? |

For the record I haven't had any issues with the bms in a while. Also the new obd firmware for jb4 will let you run the intake without the MAF, this should eliminate the issue all together.

They have already admitted to the issue I guess your one of the lucky ones. Do you have to buy the new OBDII device as well? Or you do a firmware upgrade to your JB4? Because I see no sense in having to buy the OBDII device if I have the JB4. And if it's a firmware update where is it posted I would like to test it? Still even if it works your still not escaping the heat from the engine bay.

And as for you last comment, this is a very contentious topic but Terry has tested and found that although the intake does take in some hot air, ultimately it is sucking more air overall for a better gains over the stock intake, at least for those running higher boost applications.

i have the same issue with my Injen intake on my 235. I've had it on for about a week and everything was fine. sounds great, it even felt like the car pulled harder. then out of nowhere I got a CEL with a code 00172 for running rich in bank 1. I really don't want to put the stock box back in, but i don't know if i have a choice. The car definitely doesn't seem to pull as hard now.

So I have an unfortunate update regarding my BMS and cold starts.
Just over 2 weeks ago, Jason and Terry sent me a new revision they have of the intake tube that is supposed to be more heat resistant (as my last one warped from heat). Week 1 - awesome, felt like when I first put it on last year. Noise was back, hesitation and stutter on cold start was not. Week 2 - hello problems. same cold start issues, same hesitation issues, same near stalling issues. Week 3 - removed BMS intake, put stock airbox back on and problems have disappeared. |

Yup i figured as much !! AFE,BMS are junk unfortunately mate ! I also believe there is a forum member that is or was running the Injen and it has the same issue !! No doubt there is some gains there but hesitations and crazy startup is not want I wanted from a new car with some basic mods.
i have the awe going on so i will advise if problem presents with that also Quote:

Just because you spent $1,000 for an overpriced intake doesn't make the other products "junk". You always have these crazy opinions about you with nothing other than hearsay to back the claim up. Getting sick of it, "mate". |

A benign cold start issue is a small price to pay for more power, for me at least. And fwiw I haven't had this issue since I started this thread and I especially don't expect it to happen with me running mafless.

So I've had the BMS intake installed for about a week, and already the engine is bogging down, and rough engine start where even the car stalled out! I contacted BMS to return the product and this is what they told me. I also bought the JB4 but it has yet to be installed.
"You can install the JB4 and disconnect the MAF sensor on the intake and put the check engine light delete setting on in the JB4. The first thing I recommend is remove the cored to the MAF sensor and see if the problems go away. It will cause a check engine light but ignore it." |

So would the end result of this tread be to not bother with an intake and just keep OEM on?
I plan on going with a tune and catless dp's...would the stock intake do the job? |

As the OP of this thread, get the intake. I haven't had any issues for months and I enjoy the sound too much. Worst case, sell the intake and take a small loss.

The temperatures are getting colder and during cold starts I also experience bad idle/hickup etc. I think I'll change back to stock or an other intake, only thing I would like to know HOW bad is this for the engine.
Solutions so far are running with no MAF, which doesn't feel as a solution to me, is the car perhaps running too lean when cold? |

I have the BMS intake as well and have had this happen a couple times. It usually happens when I haven't driven the car for a couple days and it is really cold outside.
